    Hi everyone.

I got an idea today, was wondering how viable it wore to swap the r2 motherboard with a r3 one.

Since I don't want to spend alot of $, I was thinking of just buying one from ebay, and then selling my r2 mobo...

Is this by any chance possible?

Cant really get a r3 motherboard on ebay right now. Plus the usb card is different, and I think the actually lower case has different mouting points for parts of the motherboard.

Your better off selling your r2 and buying a r3, it will be much much cheaper.

Dell aren't selling any parts for R3 yet. I have been trying to get hold of an R3 usb 3.0 daughterboard with no luck.

Awhile go I was looking at pictures of the r3 motherboards (cant find pic anymore) but I seem to remember that the usb daughter board had different mounting points for the 2 screws that hold it to the motherboard. Untill I can find the picture again I cant be sure the usb 3 will even plug into a r1/r2

I was really hoping to install usb 3.0 on my R1. This and the bizarre omission of gigabit ethernet means there is no way to transfer data fast in or out of my M11X.
If I get hold of one I'm still going to try it even if it involves modifying the mounting points.

Well I dont think you can or have to mod the mouting points. One of the screws should still line up just fine. But the other is like half an inch to the left. The general shape of the card is similar, and I assume the plug is the same. But untill I find one, cant be sure.

So when installed. It will have 2 of the 3 screws to hold it down.
