I finally thought my R2 was good to go after two replacement screens and one keyboard, but last night I noticed this strange glow in the top left corner of the screen (see pics below). It is basically a thin line that looks like its glowing, and on further inspection I could see it was definitely coming from under the screen. It looks like a piece of plastic cracked and fell down and it is reflecting the light from the screen, but I'm not sure exactly what it is. Does anyone else have this problem? Is this something typical, or does it warrant another service call?

Sorry for the blurry pics, my camera is out of commission and all I had was my mobile phone.

I was thinking that's what it was, but the light is coming from above the screen and I thought it was a strange shape/location. In my experience I also thought backlight bleeding looked more like the picture below.

    Ah, I see.

That, above, is poor panel quality/uniformity.

    This is poor bezel quality.

My old Vaio had a poor bezel like the picture above, but Sony Japan wouldn't replace it (they said it was normal).

Has anyone seen any R2s with a bezel issue like mine? I'm not sure if Dell will replace the screen for this, but I'm reticent to go through yet another replacement. This is my third screen since I got the R2 a month ago and they all have had problems, though this is the best out of the bunch.

If it were me, I'd have it replaced as many times as it takes for them to get it right. I'd also ask that the make sure to send someone else. It's also been stated here that if after 3 calls for the same issue, in your case an LCD assembly replacement, that you're entitled to a new system to replace the problematic one. I'm not sure to what extent this is true, but if it were me I'd push for it. You paid a premium for the M11x and it's not unreasonable for you to expect it to be pretty much perfect.

I think I'll call Dell and see if I can get a complete replacement system instead of another replaced parts. The techs Dell uses here in Japan have not been very good and I don't want to risk them causing more problems to my machine. Plus after taking it apart three times, my three week old machine doesn't feel so new anymore.

In the last call I made to Dell they offered me to send my machine to a factory to get fixed should any more problems occur. Should I go for this, or ask for a replacement? I'm worried that the factory will do an even worse job fixing it than the techs have done.

Okay, I got some better pictures of my bezel/screen problem. Has anyone seen anything like this before? It almost looks like there's something stuck in there that is reflecting the light from the LCD. It looks like I'm going to have to make another call to Dell for my third replacement screen. In the past few years I've had notebooks from Asus and NEC and have had no problems with the screens from these companies. If they can make LCDs without defects, why can't Dell?

thats likely a stress fracture in the glass of the LCD.

EDIT: Closer look, it looks like something is on the back of the Edge to Edge plastic peice that protects the LCD.
