Anyone having issues with Steam on the M11X R2?

Whenever i open it, it goes to update steam but it never gets past 0% and after that is says "Steam is currently unavailable, please try again later"

Have been like this for past week. Cant seem to fix it. Is it a M11X issue?

I don't believe its an m11x issue. I get that from time to time too. It actually happened a lot today. Perhaps the servers are being overloaded because of the sale? (don't have the m11x, this was on my main rig)

I am having a problem playing Bioshock 2 on my m11x R2, it freezes when trying to launch the game and says my video card is not good enough. The weird thing is all my other games play perfectly fine(C@C3,Bioshock 1,Oblivion,LFD2,) all my drivers are stock except i downloaded the most recent nvidia driver on the dell website.

Make sure that you have the bioshock executable in the nVidia whitelist - the driver version we shipped with did NOT have this game in the whitelist. Once you add it, it should play just fine.

    Thanks.

Can you provide some additional detail? I assume you've verified your internet connection is good and that you don't have any firewall software blocking it? Can you try disabling McAfee or whatever A/V solution you have installed? I just tried this on my unit here and was unable to duplicate - it updated right away. Note that I do not have the McAfee solution installed.

    Anyone else seeing this?

    Alohasu,

This can happen when Steam is under a high load. With the recent sales they have been doing, this is happening on a much more frequent scale. Exiting out of Steam completely and re-launching can help. I encountered this the other night and had to close out Steam a few times...

I have the same problem too.

I've done everything imaginable - uninstalling McAfee, disabling windows firewall, starting steam in safe mode with networking, running steam in compatibility mode, running steam as an administrator, uninstalling and reinstalling steam, but unfortunately nothing works.

and the problem is still here, since I've received my m11x r2 on 24th June

Do you run Peerblock? That can block Steam from connecting to Valve's servers.

Have you guys tried deleting clientregistry.blob?
It is found in the steam dir(c:\program files(x86)\steam\)

Hi, I've tried that as well.. Still doesn't work..

Hi, no I don't run that.

I've run steam from safe mode with networking but that doesnt rectify the issue. Does this mean now that it is an inherent error with steam itself? Because in safe mode, all non-essential programs would not launch, right? And I do know that it is not a router issue simply because I have other computers in the network as well and I did not do portforwarding for these computers and they can run steam just fine.

BTW thanks guys for your help... Dell is too retarded to give me a satisfactory answer

In all fairness, this isnt a dell issue. Its a Steam issue and/or a firewall issue theres way too much finger pointing going on in this forum. I would strongly suggest those of you having steam issues check the steam support forum. Its not an M11x issue or else we would all have it and most of us dont.

Not trying to diss anyone but lets start thinking about what and why we are posting before jumping on the blame wagon, as it seems to be spreading. Do a little research of your own, if you think its a genuine issue and potential fault with the M11x then search the forum to see if its been already covered, if not make a new post.

    Sorry mini rant over

Its definitely a STEAM issue as their own forums have its own rants.
