Hi everyone. I am receiving my m11x r2 soon as was wondering what user experience has been with playing Starcraft 2. Such as what setting and how many FPS you get. And any recommendations for what drivers you are using would be great. Ive read other forums on the subject yet they are older forums and would like to know how everyone's experience is now. Thanks :)

Forgot to mention its the i5-520UM

I always use the latest nVidia drivers.

In single-player, you can expect around 30fps - 50fps on Medium settings. In multi-player, you can expect about the same framerates for 1v1, with lower framerates when you have more than 2 players on a map.

Framerates do tend to dip when you have a lot of units on the screen (e.g. two 200-food armies facing off against each other). If you are a competitive ladder player, I would recommend you keep all of your settings in Starcraft 2 set to "low", to max out your framerates, and give you better control of your micro. That is going to be far more valuable than visual quality in a competitive situation.

If you're going to be playing a lot of Starcraft 2, then the best thing you can do is to look up a tool called ThrottleStop by UncleWebb, and use it. It is a software tool that allows your CPU to run in Turbo Mode more frequently, which effectively unlocks all of the computing power that your CPU is capable of. It will have a drastic impact on an RTS game like Starcraft 2, because so much of the game AI, pathing, and physics pound the CPU pretty hard.

Hmm.. Well thanks for the info.. Looking at other forums ive read people playing on ultra settings "which i seriously doubt" but i figured i could play on medium-high settings and have no less than 20 fps. Medium is the lowest i will run the game because on low settings the game looks horrible. So when i get it i should just update to the latest drivers and i should be fine on at least medium?

I have an M11x R2 with i7-640UM and I run ThrottleStop. Sadly, in games above 1v1 (i.e. 2v2 and up) the framerate is pretty bad - between 20s and low 30s while macroing, and like 10-20 during intense battles. Even setting graphics to low only improves this by about 5-10 fps. This is my experience, though - it seems like SC2 on the M11x R2 performs variably for different people. Many people had my experience, but others seemed to have it better. (And yes, I'm certain it's using the good graphics card.) There's a really long SC2-on-M11x thread from a while back, which I re-read in its entirety recently in hopes of improving performance - but it doesn't look anything was ultimately resolved.

U should be able to run on Ultra and be fine or at least high because of that i7. Yea ive played on my sisters laptop and i play on low and it gets 60 fps at the beginning but by the end it gets around 10 fps and its not great but around 20 fps i can still play pretty good. How do you like the m14? Wouldve gotten one except im attending college in fall and thats too high of an expense and not completely necessary for the time being. Hows it fare in Starcraft 2?

I play on Ultra texture and other settings High with physics off. I get 30-40fps at native LCD resolution even in 3v3. I have an i7-640um with Throttlestop and OC to 160MHz.

Ultra texture setting only uses more GPU memory and doesn't affect performance much if you have 1GB GPU ram. The thing that really slows sc2 down is the physics because sc2 doesn't use PhysX and instead uses pure CPU. So turn physics off and use High for most settings. I think you will be pleased with the result.

Kwisatch. What about during big battles does it drop below 20 or stay above it? Also 3v3 is all i play i have like 60 wins in it so far and i dont play all that often. So do you think with the i5-520um i will be fine setting a couple things on high and medium and the physics off? With high textures.s

lukekarts... Yes i belive the R1 will run Starcraft 2 on medium from the forums ive read nobody has a problem with the R1 running medium settings with high textures

I run it on my r1 on ultra, it stutters when lots of things are on the screen and during the opening screen with the BC flying past the camera. Other than that its pretty good.

    I have a su7300, 8gig ram.

ejohnson. Is this the campaign or online play? Also 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, or 4v4. That seems like a huge jump being able to play with it on Ultra on the R1. Have any screenshots?

Thats all single player 1v1 games. I play it at work, so I need to be able to pause the game alot and thats just not possible while playing online.

All my friends at work have the game running on their brand new macs, they hate that I can run max settings and they are stuck at low settings :)

The M14x handles SC2 like a champ, to answer your question. And anyhow, as I mentioned, lots of people seem to have had different experiences. For the record, my M11x R2 always starts out at high framerates (60) but 10, 20 minutes into the game, and in big battles, it's rough. Just something to keep in mind if you're an avid SC2 player. It kinda sucks to have the game get really jerky during a big battle when you want to micro.

I have a M11x R2 with an i7 and I mainly stick to medium, maybe tweak it up to high without certain settings. I was a bit disappointed with the outcome but I guess Medium is a good trade off for portability.
