    I've tried a lot of things through Google. I've tried these fixes but none of them have been working for me. I've only been able to get the issue happen less but it still happens a lot and it just sounds terrible when it happens.

    The things I've tried are

    Uninstalled C++ 2005 and 2008
    Installed C++ 2010 x64
    Validating files on Steam
    Updating Sound drivers
    Updating Video Drivers
    The default format for the sound
    Setting Priority to high in Task Manager

    Any idea what to do at this point?

    I've had this issue since the game first came out.
    The game worked perfectly on the demo, however in the full game (even replaying the what-were demo levels) it suffers from audio lag/cracking.

    THQ said they would look into it, many threads were raised - even made a public announcement out of it- but nothing has changed since it's first release.

    The only new piece of info I read recently about it, was that "The audio is being buffered through the CPU".

    Which could explain why the sound "cracks" while underload, but I run the game both max specs and min specs without suffering from lag and a high FPS and the issue is still there. Overheating isn't the issue either.

    It's just a poorly optimized game which was filled with bugs on release - especially with multiplayer.

    So I'll have to wait for THQ on this one?

    Truth be told, I don't believe they will resolve the issue - it's been an ongoing one for the past months with no updates or anything.

    I'll have a little play around with the game in the next few days to see if I conjure something up.

    If the crackling issue is really annoying you, if you move the sound effects slider to 0 it will remove the sounds.

    You will still hear the usual background music/voice sounds - just not the sound of your chainsaw going through enemies/bullet fire etc.
    I know it's terrible, but I played through most the campaign with the crackling sounds.

    Hopefully someone will come up with a fix soon though.
