When I think of gaming rigs I think high res screen, good cpu/gpu/memory, fast drives etc. Am i missing something, the specs on the m11x seem alot more ordinary.

Portability. It's like saying a Nintendo DSi or Sony PSP are not gaming rigs.

It's size... you see...

Ok makes sense... I suppose. -
Im useing my R1 for my main PC now as i wait form my desktop mobo to come back from RMA. Playing FO3 right now with Avg 45/50fps at med/high settings. Considering the price and how portable this thing is id say thats freaking awesome!
If you dont care about battery life or size buy somthing else. -

and atleast the M11 can use an ULV iCore CPU and not a nutered ULV C2D -

What makes the m11x a gaming machine is the fact that it can play any game out on medium to high settings.
What makes it awesome is a number of things:
Very portable
Awesome battery life(6+ hours on discrete graphics. 3 hours on dedicated)
Gaming
LCD lit keyboard and extras (custom colors)
Price
I love mine. Now with the new pricing it's more worth it then ever. Check for coupons. Check the dell outlet store. Don't upgrade past 4gb of ram or the 250gb HDD because you can find better deals on newegg and put them in easily yourself. That being said they do have some common problems. Check the threads. I haven't had many issues myself but others have had bad luck. Still for the price there is nothing like the m11x. Sold yet? -

- those who will never game (other than BS games people play on the iPad-type-games
- those who, instead of gaming, will use their computer only to check email, surf the web, sync their iPhones, and download and edit photos
- those who prefer the "simpler" mac OS, i.e. those who don't know anything about windows and don't care to learn
- those who have an iPhone and iPad, those who love iTunes, etc.
- those who like "pretty" things like slim aluminum body macbooks...
the M11x is geared towards:
- those who want to play 99% of modern games at medium to high settings with acceptable (and sometimes great) framerates
- those who want to the flexibility to game in places other than their primary residence
last i checked, the macbook air has a 1.4 and 1.6 ghz core2duo processor (similar to the M11x, and hardly fast by today's standards), and to upgrade to 1.6 ghz and 4 GB of RAM, the macbook air costs upwards of $1300. i bought my R1 M11x a month ago for $649, and it will outperform the air in most games, while also keeping up with it in other areas.
final thoughts: people who like pretty things and have money to throw around generally buy apple over PC.

and with that, if you want to compare, head over to the 'What Notebook Should I buy?' section of NBR.
