I present for a living and need to connect to a variety of displays including many with only VGA inputs. M11x-R2 doesn't have a VGA output as you know. I looked here and called Alienware support and everyone was directing me to multi-hundred dollar wireless options to convert HDMI to VGA.

The simple HDMI to VGA adapters don't work because nothing converts the digital HDMI signal to analog VGA. Don't make that mistake!

I found this DisplayPort to VGA adapter for less than $20 and it works like a charm!

Hope this helps anyone else looking to drive a VGA display device of any kind.

Yep, there's been a thread or two on this :)

If you want a display port to VGA adapter with a cord, they have them on monoprice.com. I have one, and it works as expected.

The DP to VGA cables at monoprice have active converters built into them. Keeps you from having to keep up with both a converter and the cable. On the other hand in your case the converter might very well be the better choice since you're likely going to be presenting in places where a fixed cable isn't the best solution.

Only problem I had with these adapters is i cant go higher than 1024x768 on our HD projector (they dont have the HDMI cables run in our office).
