Usually they wont let you do it your self. Your not dell certified.

But, you have to take everything apart, and remove the mother board to get to the speakers.

The best thing I can suggest, based on my old experience with bad techs, is to supervise them while they work. If they have a problem with it tell them that you prefer to monitor them working on your notebook, and if that is a problem ask them to request another on-site tech (or just ask them to leave).

That's what I did, it pressures them to do their job correctly. Addressing the speaker problem, check contacts and connections with speakers to the mobo.

People are making Dell technicians sound hostile in nature.

I never had an issue with mine, he came to replace the system board in my R2 and i just started chatting with him and sat there watching him repair it, trying to familiarize myself with the internals of an M11x, and he was more than happy to give me a verbal walkthrough as he was repairing it.

You have to take pretty much everything apart.

Just wait for the tech to show up to install new parts.
no sense in possibly breaking something when a tech will be there to fix it anyways. Plus if they mess anything up, they will fix it free, if you mess anything up, your screwed.
