Hey guys, my R3 arrived on Monday, took 24 hours to get from Shanghai, very impressive! Everything is going swimmingly and I love it to bits! I do however have a slight issue with alienFX, before admin immediately moves this to the FX section I have this question unanswered there and seeing as it is m11x specific and no one seems to have an answer there I thought I'd try again.

So all the lights work and I have created my own theme which is working as it should, the issue I have it applying the themes. When I apply a theme it will possibly only apply to one section or not at all and will require a restart in order to get it fully working. I don't know how I can get it to apply without restarting, I have tried everything, I even used respawn to reinstall everything but that didnt help. It's not a major issue but it would be nice to be able to experiment with FX without having to restart every time to see my results!

    Any idea's people?

    Cheers, Tom.

Have you tried uninstalling and installing it back?

Mine does not need a restart to apply the themes properly.

I have also changed the colour of every section just for trying and it works as it should.

Try it and let us know.

    Cheers for the reply.

I did try that, I uninstalled and then re-installed by entering my service tag on the dell website and downloading command centre but it was a different version and it didn't work so I had to use alien respawn to get me back to where I was in the first place and the problem still persists. Is there a way I can uninstall and then re-install using software on my HDD or anything so I get the exact same version as I currently have?

Slight update, i just restarted and only a few sections were lit up until it fully booted and now some sections are out of sync in relation to the other sections. If I click quick change it doesn't do anything, just continues at it was. It basically just isn't working correctly!

Is your computer fully patched as far as .NET is concerned? I remember reading in some posts about the AlienFX being dependent on .NET somewhere here.

You mentioned that you have used your service tag on DELL website to download the command center.

I don't know about yours, but with mine if I do the same, the dell website points me to the M11xR1 not the R3.

I always have to get to the page using the old fashion way of selecting each choice manually.

Maybe that is the problem, you're using a non compatible version.

Try that and let us know.

i just got my m11x today and i have the same problem :( i haven't found a pattern to this problem but i know for sure that the lights for the power button never changes colour instantly (needs a restart).

I have found a fix of sorts. Although it is by no means permanent and I would still love to find a proper fix. But rather than having to restart I can toggle the fx events on and off or off and on and that does the job... For now!

    Tom.

Oh and it's the same for me. No pattern really, usually now when I boot up the keyboard and power is lit but the vents and Alienware sign aren't. Then, when windows loads and the fx tray loads the vents and Alienware sign light up too however are now out of sync with the keyboard so I have to disable/enable fx events by right clicking on the tray icon. That then restarts the event and it is all synced. I have to do this upon every start up. If I then want to change the theme, pressing apply does nothing usually, or sometimes just changes 1 or 2 sections but never works perfectly and a restart is required. It's very frustrating. I wouldn't normally mind to much as I have learnt to deal with it by toggling effects but you pay a premium and expect is to all work as it should.

it was two posts above yours, apparently it fixed a similar issue on a m17x (#275 http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...problems-questions-thread-28.html#post8448345)

looking at the youtube vid on m11x teardown you have to remove the backplate, keyboard and the palmrest to access the CMOS.

Yeah, sounds as though that'll sort it. I won't be able to get round to the CMOS for a day or two. If you do, could you report in and let me know how it goes.

    Tom.

It doesn't but nor does my R3 now. I forgot to update this thread but I managed to sort it. It was software based, I basically downgraded and it works exactly as it should now. I'm on the iPad now so I'll sort links out later.

Ok, sorry for the delay Blingers. I've been enjoying the limited sun with bbq's and beers!

Right then, I downgraded to this version: "Alienware_Command-Center-Not_A00_R296137.exe (56MB)". You can get it from here. The bottom of the three under application. I believe the second one down is the one that your m11x was shipped with, at least it was for me. Bizarre how it has two CC's for the R3 on the dell drivers website, some must have just installed the wrong one.

make sure you fully uninstall CC first time round and then install this.

Hope it sorts your issues, make sure you update us!

Hi folks! Here is some important troubleshooting that you need to follow to determine if a HW replacement is needed, if after performing all those steps the issue continues please send us an e-mail to [email protected] including your service tag and phone number and we will get back to you as soon as possible. After the resolution let everyone know on this thread what was the outcome. #IWork4AW

I've also had the same problem after re-installing windows recently. I thought I should opt for the newest software as it might be a bit faster (command centre being so slow to open). Got the same issue where clicking "Apply" for new themes didn't work. Luckily I had the old software lying around.

I also have a problem where the UFO button doesn't work to open Command Centre. Does anyone else also have this problem? (I would like to assess if it's unrelated.) Pressing the button does nothing for me. I've already tried reinstalling the OSD software.

EDIT: I will also vouch for the inaccuracy of Dell's website with regard to service tags. Using the service tag for my R3, I got the wrong audio drivers and a version of command centre that said it was for R2 machines.

There is a new version of commandcenter in the dell website (released last month) and alienfx works fine with the m11xr3.
