So, everything was working fine for a while but as of recently, my computer freezes up for about a minute when I wake it from sleep. If I try to click anything once it wakes up, the cursor starts doing the spinning icon and will say the programs I tried clicking are not responding. After about a minute it will stop and I can use my PC however this is somewhat of an annoyance. I was always able to put my password in and as soon as I logged in, do work.

I don't mind waiting a few seconds for the screen to turn on/display once I open it however this "not responding" for a minute is very frustrating if anyone knows of anything I can try and do to fix it.

I'm watching this thread because I've noticed that my R2 has "started" to act in the same way. I open the case and the full desktop is displayed (after windows resume) but there is a pause of about 15 seconds before a mouse click will register.

I remember reading somewhere in the threads that someone had suspected that it was the Hard Disk deciding that it was into "Crash-Protection" mode. In that case he was closing the lid and turning it upside down to cool.

I have since started closing the lid and waiting for it to enter sleep mode before putting it into the case or turning upside down... I still am not sure of a correlation... To be honest I'm a bit sceptical since the pause is AFTER windows resumes, which would I imagine require disk access.

This happens to me whether I close the laptop and leave it on a desk in the same position and open it, or whether I'm walking around with it open, close it, walk with it, then open it somewhere else. It never used to do this but now it does everytime.

I checked my HDD and it's fine, tried with fewer things or no things open and it still does it. It's just weird because for months I could open it and BOOM I could do something but now, I need to wait about 30 seconds or else a mouse click will result in not registering or "program not responding".

Obviously, not a huge deal I can wait 30 seconds but for those times you want to open your computer real quick to check something, it is kind of frustrating.

I'm not really sure why, but I have a similar problem if my screen shuts off (just the screen shutting off, not actually going to sleep) and it's still open and then I "Wake" it back up, the screen will be very distorted and pixels will be the wrong color. But if I refresh the desktop it's fine.

I just noticed that while it was "waiting" to wake up after I opened the lid, the keyboard lights were off, then when the keyboard lights finally came on everything was immediately functional.

I axed the "Alien FX" service and it seems fast now, I opened the lid and everything was responding within 5 seconds.

I would start experimenting by removing the services you have running and see what that does.

Just wanted to update this thread. After you mentioned the AlienFX thing, it occurred to me I started using a different AlienFX theme. I started using one that changes colors and cycles through them posted in the Alienfx thread. After I started using this was when I noticed the problems.

About 2 weeks ago I disabled AlienFX to conserve battery during hurricane Irene, but not actually killing the process. Just having the lights disabled allowed my computer to wake up instantly and not have wait times. I'm going to do some more testing with some basic themes of just one color and what not and see how it goes. When I was using a standard Red single color theme this didn't seem to happen before, but maybe the "advanced" themes that changes colors and what not eat up more resources when the computer is waking up and lags it.
