I reinstalled my m11x using the windows 7 CD they gave me on a new HD, which had nothing but windows. I downloaded all the drivers manually in the CORRECT order. Ive turned ON windows updates, and it's gotten even slower, so i reinstalled it WITHOUT windows updates and its BETTER but everything is still slower, everything opens slower, winrar extracts slower (10mins compared to 1min on my compaq).

Is there a way to use recovery partition to reinstall it (would that have all the drivers already?)

    thanks.

Check the power settings I believe that windows by default makes a laptop a balanced or battery saver mode upon install.

Something really wrong there mate, I think something has gone very wrong.
Maybe do a Windows experience rating first?
If I had that I'd re-do everything again.

as instructed on the dell website (chipset first then blah blah)

and bigun its not that. im not THAT illiterate :p

ive done many reinstalls since windows 95-vista
this is the FIRST time i have ever encountered a problem fresh out of a clean install.

its driving me nuts, i have NO clue whats going on.

it runs perfectly on the old harddrive, so ive narrowed it down to either a software issue or the harddrive messing up.

ive removed all bloatware. removed all programs that were unnecessary, killed all processes that were unnecessary. closed all programs in the tray. made sure absolutely NOTHING was running.

yet still 10mins to unrar a 1gig file.

oh, and frequent freezing. every 2 minutes it freezes for a good 10 seconds.
