I am currently not playing games much at the moment and am waiting on the release of D3 and SWTOR. I do play WoW just not lately.
Has there been any talk of an r4? What has the cycles been of the m11x?
Thanks ahead of time.

The R4 will most likely come about when Ivy Bridge is released in the first half of next year.
I'm not sure how big a difference there will be between the R3 and the R4 but if you don't need it yet, you may as well wait.
This is all pure speculation though, we actually have no idea. -
You actually just got me thinking that no matter which one I decide to get, I am pretty sure that both will be able to play any of the games I listed at max settings.
Guess I will hold off awhile longer, I just have the itch to buy it but no real reason atm. Thanks for the reply. -
I'm in a similar position, I am very interested and was very close to picking up an R3 but as I'm abroad and have no time for gaming at the moment I'm content with simply waiting it out, if I feel the R3 is enough it'll be cheaper once the R4 is released anyways.
I've more than a few games, (about 15 in fact 0_o) dating back 2-4 years, on my Steam account that I never got around to playing, for one reason or another, and I know that Battlefield 3 and the Witcher 2 will be the most demanding games I'll be looking to play once i settle on buying a gaming capable machine.
There are no big releases between now and next year that interest me or are more demanding in system spec, I'll be very interested to see how a potential successor handles Arma2 and Battlefield 3.
(Arma3 would be nice but it's predecessor is still punishing on the smaller machines) -
Well you will have to wait a while for R4, as R3 is still (relatively?) new.
And next gen CPUs will be more efficiency concerned (or was it the gen after the next one?) anyways, if you wont be using it now, it would be a shame to let it collect dust... -
I hope the R4 is Ivy, because it would be 22nm then and they can put more transistors in it, and that means it will be more powerful and it will take just as much or less power.

Is there some technology that is just around the corner worth waiting for? No, probably not. The Alienware M11x R4 has not been announced. And the earliest it could possibly show up is Q2 2012 (around April-ish, at the earliest). Intel Ivy Bridge needs to be released first. And then add 3-4 months on top of that for Alienware to design a laptop around that, manufacture that new laptop, and push it out into the sales channel.
So, should you wait for an Alienware M11x R4? Depends on how patient you are. If you want a laptop to play around with today, then just buy the M11x R3... it would be a smart move. If you can afford to wait 6+ months, then wait. You can either buy an M11x R3 a lot cheaper than what you would pay today, or you can get an M11x R4 if it is out by then.
Me, personally... I am impatient. I'd buy what I need, when I need it. Waiting isn't worth it for me. -
I am impatient and have the money. I guess when I resub to WoW when 4.3 comes out it will probably get me to buy it and then SWTOR is just around the corner after that and so is D3 so I am sure the r3 is going to fit my gaming needs even at the base model. So I imagine in the next month or two I will probably buy one. -

I presume mobile Ivy Bridge and Nvidia's Kepler GPUs would make for a killer M11x revision... next year.
Should I wait for r4 or get r3?
