Hello all. I've read some reviews and I want one. BADLY. But I'm not sure I can take the misery of crappy Dell build quality and despicable, insulting support. So can you reassure me?

Secondly, what do you think of these cheapies on ebay? They have a German keyboard, but they're supplied with UK layout keyboard stickers from Dell. And they're only 579 UKP inc. delivery! The same spec from the Dell site is 899 inc. VAT and delivery. items - Get great deals on LAPTOP COMPUTER UPGRADES PARTS, LAPTOPS AND NOTEBOOKS items on eBay.co.uk Shops! Are they suspiciously cheap? Maybe they were assembled ages ago and the build quality's rubbish?

I'm not sure about support over where you live, but the U.S. support has been nothing short of phenomenal for me...

I'm in England. Nobody here phones unless the only alternative is root canal surgery.

But the NDC ones are reconditioned, and they cost more than the new ones on ebay.

yes reconditioned, but not from end users but rather direct from Dell themselves so as new. they haven't any in stock at the moment with the same spec as the ebay one but would be about £569, the important fact thou is the ebay one as far as i can see doesn't come with a 1 year warranty unlike the NDC ones only 14 days!

An excellent point! The ebay seller has a phone number so I'll call him about warranties etc.

NDC price is very nice especially you are getting 1 year warranty with Dell anyway and it is an authorised dealer.

If you are buying this from ebay I would suggest asking them for a service tag and punch this in at Welcome to Dell Support and you will see what you are entitled to.

Saying Alienware is a Dell is like saying Aston Martin is a Ford. Sure, Ford owned Aston Martin... but an Aston Martin was still it's own car. Same with Alienware and Dell. The Alienware is in a league all to itself, head and shoulder above Dell.

Not sure about support though, as I haven't had to deal with them.

I bought my M11x on ebay, new in box, and it's awesome. I love it and got it for a great price, no monitor or hinge issues.

Doogser, I just bought a German one from Asmdirect on ebay. I'm waiting for it to arrive any day now.

How did you get on with yours when it first arrived? Was Windows 7 pre-installed in German? I think I will be supplied with a Windows 7 install disc but I'm worried that I will lose the Alienware custom applications and drivers when I do that.

which one are you looking at? the R1 or R2? If it's the R2 i'll try and dig out the link/spec I used :) 4GB, i7, 500GB HD, a bit over £900 with quidco.

thats assuming it's still on their site :D

This was a TOP TIP, thanks. ASMDirect gave me a tag and Dell said it had an exended warranty until March 2012. What a steal! So I've just bought one. The seller is away so I didn't get the chance to check the tag of the actual machine I've bought. But they're all the same spec with German keyboard, so I'm hoping they all have the same warranty cover.

There are 6 left. £580 shipped. SU7300, 4 GB Ram, 500 GB disk. Happy Christmas to me, Happy Christmas to me, Happy Christmas to meeee......
