I'm wondering for all m11x owners. Are there any apparent scratches on your screen yet? Or is it still in pristine condition since the day you got it? How long have you had it for? Are you using any screen protectors? Please reply :)

Mine is still in perfect condition. I do my best to keep it clean, and usually sandwich some very soft cloth inbetween the lid and the keyboard when I put it in its sleeve.

I've had the Alienware screen protector on since day one. Put it on before I even booted it up the first time. Not taking any chances.

I just got my screen swapped today, and I just ordered a 3M privacy shield and will cut it to size. So yeah, you don't want to go commando with this screen...

you want the screen protector to not only protect but cut down on the horrible glare. You will still have glare even with the AR protector but it will be much less than stock and help with getting scratches over the screen when the lid is closed from the keyboard.

Has anyone tried or heard anything about any of the screen protectors being offered on eBay. This one is half the price of the one from Dell but I'm not sure about the quality.

the one thing that I hate about matte covers is that they wash out the visuals of the screen vs looking at a regular glossy screen.

I had a glossy screen from Sony Vaio for 4 whole years and I puchased that thing for 2 grand. I never saw use in making the laptop look ugly for such a reason as that. I never got scratches on it, thats why I consider not using one. Then again sony is different than dell, but how much more different?

Glossy LCD screens have been out for a while so you think every company would have had time to perfect there screens. The only problem with this model is that when you close the lid the keys touch because of those dam hinges, imo just put a cloth when you close it and you should be set! :)

As careful as I am with my electronic equipment, I will be traveling with this laptop so you guys have scared me into ordering a screen protector. I just hope I can get it on without any bubbles or dust particles. The best price I found was $29.82 including Ground shipping at shopblt.com. I have ordered from them before and can vouch for their legitimacy.

It's not the plastic on the screen; it's the design of the laptop. The screen on most people's laptop rests on the keyboard, and since keyboards pick up grease, dust, and other debris, all of that ends up touching and rubbing against the screen, causing scratches. Your Sony didn't have that problem with the design, so it's not a good metaphor.

I'm told that the M15x/M17x have the same design. Aren't they prone to getting scratched as well then? Or is it more resistive because of the glass screen?

I just got my m11x today and the first thing I did was put on the green onion ag2 protector.

Can't say I'm very thrilled. Went on easy. No bubbling or anything like that.

It just makes the whole screen look fuzzy and distorted.

Did I put it on wrong? Can I do anything to lessen the effect? Should I just go commando?

Good point, do you think sliding a cloth inbetween when you close it should help though?

I get fingerprints on mine occasionally, and the keyboard leaves a kind of key-shaped mark on a few areas. I just rub mine off with a soft chamois cloth and keep it in my laptop bag when not using it. I wouldn't mind using a protector though; I have one on my Nintendo DS and it's useful

What do you value more? It's all personal preference.

I'm going to be using my m11x for my daily, long commutes on the train, so I'm more than willing to sacrifice some clarity over staring at my reflection.

Exactly! I usually use my laptop at home in the evening or when I travel at night. I am not exposed to a high reflection environment every often, so I chose clarity and a backlit keyboard.

Of course we want it all, but when the answer to that is "no", then we are forced to choose.

BTW, dv8shun, I wouldn't want to stare at your reflection all day either! ;)

    Why you, lol.

Forgot to mention, the secondary reason I'm going to use the anti-glare protector is to prevent direct contact of the screen with the keyboard.

i used a different protectors from MWAVE and i love it no graininess and the glare has been reduced by about 65% well worth it i have very slight bit of glare if the light is hitting it direct but if i move the laptop slightly all the glare is gone. It went on a little painful since it was 15.6" and i cut it to size but i paid $10 each and got 4 of them for the price of one and the clarity does not seem to be effected it did not get grainy on me.

Mwave 15.6" iSHIELD Anti-Reflective Screen Protector (Japaness High Quality Film), Size: 343 X 204 from mwave.com
