About to order an SSD i was just wondering for those that have done it did you have any problems installing windows and getting the laptop to work ok after?

I watched a video on youtube about installing an SSD and the guy said his Window's recovery disc didn't have the drivers on for the Alienware FX lights.

I would be reinstalling windows using an external DVD optical drive would there be any problems with that also?

Can anyone confirm they installed windows/drivers without any problems?

I've done it plenty of times, external USB drive worked fine for me. Simply put in the alienware CD, install it. Then download the latest drivers from dell website drivers and everything works much better than before with your new ssd :D

Its probably easier to have the drivers pre-downloaded and on a USB before you put in the SSD.

I don't have an Alienware, but I just did the same thing to my new HP Envy 17 3D. Instead of doing a reinstall, I bought a cheap SATA-USB adapter, along with a copy of Acronis TrueImage Home 2012. First I installed ATI2012 and created an Acronis Boot Disc on a DVD. Then I removed the old HDD, replacing it with the SSD, and connected the old drive to the USB adapter and the laptop. After that I booted off the Acronis Disk, and used it's tools to copy the image from the old drive to the new one (really easy). Disconnect the old drive, reboot, and enjoy the new way faster bootup and responsiveness, without losing anything from the original factory setup. :)
