I called Dell and told them I want to return...They transferred me to returns department who offered:

    -New Replacement
-Extra year of "on-site/accidental" for FREE (I had 1 year before)
-I can keep using this one till replacement arrives

Seemed like too good a deal to pass down lol

    Now my question:

Can I take the SSD out of this m11x and stick it in the replacement and have it boot/work without issues ?

The tech specs are the same on replacement (r2 / i7 / 4gb)

The SSD is a OCZ Vertex 2 60GB

    Huh... not bad at all!

May I ask what it is you said to dell in order for them to offer you that?

To answer your question... yes, you can just take your current hard drive and put it into the replacement. It will work just fine.

The only issue is you will have to image your current system and once the new drive is installed, load the image to the new drive.

If you have not yet reformatted your original drive, make a rescue src using DataSafe Local/Alienware Respawn - either optical or USB flash - your call. Install the new drive and then boot from the rescue media - this will put your system into a 'out of box' state. Just reinstall your apps.

    or,

use an aftermarket image app (acronis, ghost, etc.).

Why image? Why couldn't he just take out the SSD from hsi current M11x, and put it into the replacement M11x that he gets?

Maybe because the hardware ID's are different even though the specs are the same???

I'll try swapping it out and see what happens.

Oh my bad - sorry folks. I didn't completely read the first post. I was thinking a replacement drive was being introduced - in which case, it would be blank.

    LOL - oops.
