No. This laptop is designed only for basic word processing, hence the "alienware" logo. Ok lol all kidding aside, of course it will run starcraft 2. I've heard people say they were able to play 2v2 matches smoothly on ultra settings on the R1... so an upgraded processor will only help that, and you should definitely have no problem running the game on high-ultra settings for single player campaign and 1v1 & 2v2 matches. I've even hear some people say that 3v3 and 4v4 matches were playable on high settings on their m11xs. Do you have an m11x yet?

Haha I'm one day off - mine's set to arrive 3rd of August :D. I went for the R1 model with the C2D SU7300 processor, 4gb ram, 160gig standard HDD (gunna upgrade) and Win7 home premium though, just because I'm a poor college student, and I need me that extra battery life :p. Got it all for $766 with some phone haggling & coupons :D

Srsly considering freezing myself in crystostasis for a week cartman-style lol, this wait is unbearable... D:

Ohhh, man... and Starcraft 2 is coming out on July 27th. Do you guys have rigs to play Starcraft 2 on while you wait for your laptops?

I actually don't really know right now, because the order doesn't show up in my dell account. I'm gunna contact dell about it tomorrow (or today, if they answer phones today) and see if I can get it sorted out.

No lol - in fact I don't have any computer right now. I've been relying on on-campus computers / my roommates' laptop for the past 3 months since my old crappy gateway broke :-X

the i5 should be perfectly fine for SC2 unless by some miracle the i7 is 50x better than the i5, which I doubt

I was able to play a 4v4 custom game with smooth FPS (~50) during fighting of a dozen units

Hm ok then I'm guessing I can expect somewhere around 40fps with 12 man battles on my OC'd R1

Btw, I wonder if turning off turbo boost would have any effect on SC2 (for R2 models)

well by a dozen units i mean like, 6 marines vs 6 zerglings

my quadcore, GTX260 PC has problems with FPS when its a huge battle or a mothership is present, god damn mothership lol

lulz. at least blizzard nerfed them :p

i'd be interested to know how the R1 handles large 2v2 battles, with 100+ units onscreen etc. - shaders / shadows on low or even off, but with other (non-cpu intensive) settings high..

can't imagine R1 when a mothership is present lol

I haven't really played a big battle on the m11x, will have to wait till Tuesday when my Collector's Edition arrives!

I usually play on my PC and did on the laptop just for FPS tests for someone in the other thread. Surprisingly I bought the M11x so i could do some gaming on the go but I find myself not really doing it, but I rather enjoy the unique design
