So a few days after I ordered an m11x r2, the r3 specs were released. It was too late for me to cancel my order but talking to a rep he said they would wave the restocking fee if I wanted it returned to get the r3 after I have received it. So now its here. Still in the box (has to be unopened to be returned) and I'm not sure if it's worth it to go though all the trouble to get an updated version.

    What would you guys do?

Considering you could be waiting weeks or months you might not be having a portable gaming system for a while. I don't think a date is released yet, but even then it will take another 2 weeks after that to get one.

I'm so torn, I could open it up now and have a blast or wait a bit and get a more future proof machine..

you will be very happy with your r2, the r3 doesnt have a release date and could be months til it comes out.

If you don't need it now, just wait. It will give you the benefit of seeing the prices of the R3 as well as the reviews and performance of it. If you need it now, just keep the R2. If it were me, I would keep the R2. Of course I am biased since I already have one, but I know what my machine can do and I am satisfied with its performance, especially now that there are methods to overclock past 166 mhz and to overclock my gpu even higher. I know that the R3 should perform a little better than the R2, but I don't care, since the R3 will probably be 2x as much as I got my R2 for.

I was in the same boat a few days ago w/ the m11x r2; I'm going to just enjoy it while I can. As everyone said, could be awhile yet before the new release. You can get in a lot of gameplay that would otherwise be wasted!

You also have 21 days from the date of delivery to be able to send it back, order the new R3 if it comes out, and avoid the restocking fee, and they said it didn't matter if I used it - doesn't have to be 'untouched' and in the box to send it back, just in good condition.

Well if this helps, only the M14 and M18 were added to the AW site, which later got taken down. I didn't see any M11 info, so you may be waiting a while, but I could be wrong.

Nonetheless, if I was you and could still return it after the April 21st speculative AW announcement/release date, I would wait.

If you really need it, keep it. I had 2 years without having a computer at my dorm(technology major, oh the irony) and had to go to the library in my university to do work. Having a laptop is much more convenient.
So, if you think you can survive without the laptop, I think it'll be worth the wait.

The alleged R3 specs do not represent a monumental shift in technology platform. If we were talking about the difference between a 486 and a Core 2 Duo I'd say send it back, but that's really not the case here. The R3 is just an evolution of the existing R2 specs and not a massive jump. Enjoy your machine, and in a couple of years time replace it with the R9

Open the box! You have 21 days to play around with it before dell will hit you with a restocking fee. Looking at the specs alone suggests the r3 will see a modest upgrade to a throttlestoped r2 i7.

Honestly, by the time you get the R3, the R4 specs will leak! LOL

keep the R2. It should last you a a good few years
