I could use a little help. I just got a used m11x-R1. The drive had been upgraded since the first user sold it to me so no recovery partition on it. I do have the Win 7 DVD that the system came with. The seller wiped the HD so I am reinstalling Win 7 right now as I type this.

What steps/order should I install things to get it like new? Also after done how do I make a backup DVD for the future?

    Thanks in advance.

I have most stuff working. But the login screen to win 7 is the basic one not the alienware one. How can I fix this? Also did it have webcam software?

Trying to get like it came from Dell and then I will remove what I don't want.

    Related question.

Is it easy to replace HDD with SSD on M11x.

Does back panel come off easily?

Is this a standard SSD or one of Dell's Caseless Pain-in-the-asses? A 256gb samsung of unknown generation and speed... with Trim.. maybe.
Or does anyone know the specs Read/write on the 256gb SSD in the M11x?

Want to buy 320GB HDD 7200 and then put my own/better SSD on for less than the Dell $495 upgrade. Would rather have smaller but faster one. (120/128/160)

    thx

It came with cyberlink youcam software. Google for it maybe, or check the dell support site.

I have another question. The hard drive that came with this unit was 250gig. The drive failed so Best Buy replaced it with a 500gig. The restore partition is gone now. Anyone have an image of a unit that had 500gig I could use to restore the unit?

So if there anyway to restore the drive like it came from Alienware? I know someone should have a complete 500gig drive image.
