Dell's recommended drivers are the best unless you want to play PunkBuster games IMO (you can still play non-PB servers which usually have a MOD that blocks hacks better than PB FYI)

Question about the Realtek drivers - do the stock ones provided by Realtek work okay with the m11x's speakers if the SRS enhancer is enabled?

It appears Alienware customized the audio drivers specifically for the laptop as if you try the stock drivers, and attempt to play some bass heavy songs, you'll get a lot of "attack-and-fallback" cycles (the song gets loud, then suddenly gets softer, then louder, then softer...).

No. For best results with the least amount of headache, you should use the ones provided by Dell. People have created "hacked" sets of hybrid drivers, but results are mixed.

Never had any problems with the currently supported DELL M11x Realtek driver. A driver prior to the one DELL currently has listed had some issues, but that's no more. Never noticed volume fluctuations.

But then with the blood clots still in my ears and the random bleeding from the Sennheiser PX 100-II headphones, it's a wonder I can hear anything.

Currently using HD Audio ALC665 6.0.1.6316

For Alienware M11x R1, use the drivers on the Dell support site.

Reliable and supported drivers are worth more than any 1% performance gain you can get from hacked non-official drivers.

Dell posted 263.08 display drivers on the website last week.

I was starting to feel a little abandoned having to use modded drivers.

Yeah, the drivers from Dell work fine. I was referring to the newer R2.58 (?) drivers posted on Realtek's site.
