    Hi guys,

Noticed a lot of you guys are rolling with the Orochi.

Just wondering what everyones experience is with the Razer Orochi mouse on their M11x's.

I've read a lot of mixed reviews regarding the 'Sleep' lag problem, a few of them stating that the latest firmware has fixed it.

Here is a video of the problem:
Razer Orochi Sleep Test - YouTube

Does anyone get this? Does the latest firmware really fix it? Can't find any definitive answer.

It wouldn't be a huge problem as I'd mainly game on cable but pretty sure if it was like in the video it would frustrate me over time.

    Cheers chaps!

This behavior is unfortunately by design and firmware version has nothing to do with it.

    Quote from Razer's support site:
    RAZER OROCHI : WINDOWS : RESOLUTION 400001856

Q: The delay time caused by the Orochi coming out of sleep mode is affecting my gaming, what can I do about this?
A: During sleep mode, the Razer Orochi enters a low power mode where the consumption of battery life is reduced to a minimum. The delay you are seeing is the mouse reestablishing its Bluetooth connection with the computer. The wireless response time of the Orochi has been optimized to be very quick, 8 milliseconds. However, you may notice a slight delay as the Bluetooth connection is reestablished. For the supreme gaming experience and competitive gaming we recommend using the Orochi in wired mode.

i love the mouse, but really, it should go to sleep mode after 1minute or so... cause if you go camping or something, it goes to sleep in 2seconds or so, and you're pretty much splattered all over the wall :)

Great mouse on a cable, with a fairly useless wireless feature... Who cares about recharging a few batteries every now and again anyways, my phone is sucking the cable every night... Charging a mouse once say a week(probably way less often than a week though) wouldn't really be a bloody problem now would it...

i got a MS sidewinder x5, not particularly happy with it, but it works really well on most surfaces, just that its HUGE. Will definitely invest more in the next mouse when the cable dies or the mouse dies (i carry it around in my backpack so its not a question of IF but of a WHEN)

Thanks but I was hoping to get a first hand opinion rather than a quote from the razer website. This issue is fixable by a firmware update by upping the sleep timer and was looking to see whether the latest update (1.6) has helped it or fixed it.

Have you updated your firmware? From the limited info I've found it does seem some people have next to no lag when it comes back out of sleep mode.

As I said, this behavior is by design and according to Razer will not be changed. The 1.6 firmware does nothing to address it....and yes I own one. Like they said in their support article if you want to game with it plug it in via USB. People who say theirs is fixed simply don't notice it. Trust me it's there.

If you want a good wireless mouse for the m11x go with the Logitech M510. That's what I use and love it. No lag whatsoever.

well... i hate dongles, just takes up precious USB ports, and from bluetooth mice i could find orochi is by far the coolest looking and best option overall... i am sure it should be possible to hard-wire it to disable the sleep mode... just needs some people to find how, sadly i am not quite bright enough to achieve that.

Logitech V470 looks nice, but with bluetooth 1.2 i doubt it can boast good DPI or good specs... at least nothing close to orochi... I hope they will make a revision to orochi to address the issue... Would be a instant must buy :)

The Razer Orochi is not a wireless Bluetooth gaming mouse. The Razer Orochi is a wired gaming mouse, that happens to have a non-gaming wireless Bluetooth mode.

In wired mode, the mouse operates at up to 4000dpi and 1000Hz / 1ms USB polling rate. That is more than enough performance for gaming.

In wireless Bluetooth mode, the mouse operates up to 2000dpi, 125Hz / 8ms polling rate, and will fall into Bluetooth sleep mode if no activity is detected for about 30 seconds. That might be "good enough" performance for some people. But I consider that performance to be unacceptable.

If you are fine with all of that for $70, then go for the Razer Orochi. If you want a true wireless gaming mouse that operates at full performance in both wired or wireless modes, get a Logitech G700 for $70. If you don't care about wireless performance, then get a wired gaming mouse like the Logitech G500 or Razer DeathAdder for about $40-$50.

i'd love G700, but even though small, I HATE that it takes up a USB port... if i had the time to make the internal USB mod and stuff it inside, it would be awesome... Sadly bluetooth is a fairly slow technology and i suppose you can't get same responsiveness as from 2.8Ghz standard dongle dingles...

This topic does give good insight on what next mouse to get though... Wires isn't really that much a nuisance though... i keep my sidewinder x5s cable zip tied at length i need, 1 end goes to USB throw the wire bundle up from the lappy and its really peachy... what i hate is the cheap sharp clicky sound of the mouse... next mouse i am getting, i am getting one with this quiet squishy sound like m11x touchpad has, just without such a deep click... used to have one of those... had an unfortunate open fire involved accident :(

Didn't say that I wanted to game in the wireless mode...

But I do read articles on websites and it would be slightly frustrating to keep 'waking' the mouse up every time I want to scroll down the page.

Gaming would no doubt be done on the wire which is not my concern. Can one of you guys with the mouse measure the amount of time it takes to sleep? Kent says 30secs Mario says 3secs? Which is it?

I dont have an issue with waking from sleep, its pretty much instantaneous every time for me... however, i do have a problem with bluetooth connectivity, as it has such poor range it laggs hard..., sometimes it is unplayable (even unusable) even when it is right next to the computer...

However, in wired mode, this mouse is absolutely perfect :D No issues there.

My Orochi is fine in wireless mode for web browsing (I can tolerate the hitching), but the dog chewed through the specially-shaped micro USB cable and I've had to play through a few games in wireless mode. It was serviceable for Portal 2, Arkham Asylum, Modern Warfare, etc single-player campaigns, but I wouldn't want to play an online match when handicapped that way.

I think my post was a typo. It is closer to 3 seconds sleep, and not 30.

I own one and love it. Wireless is definately for out of game use only, plug it in for any sort of gaming and works like a dream.

I like that the wire unplugs and tucks away into the little pouch with the mouse for travel.

Most comfortable mouse of this size Ive ever used.

But yeah, wireless and gaming is laggy as all hell, definately not recommended.
