When playing games with the m11x-r2 on my lap, the RAM gets really hot.

I ensure the fan intake and exit is not blocked by my leg but am concerned with the heat that comes from the RAM.

The bottom of the laptop where the customised badge is gets burning hot and this also transmits through to the palmrest to the left of the mouse.

The RAM has been replaced in this laptop and I cannot remember the brand, however it's running 4gb RAM.

Would running some Corsair/Kingston ram help it run cooler?

R1 or R2? Is the CPU or GPU overclocked?

with my m11xr2 i7, when i push it it gets hot on the left side in the palmrest area... but i have my laptop on a laptop cooler and when checking the core temperatures they never go past 65 C... burning hot does sound a bit bad though - you should really consider trying using a laptop cooler - i got my friend one who always has overheating laptop problems and it dramatically lowered temps for her (as in, from burning skin hot to moderately hot)

The bottom plate will get hot, no matter what. It just seems to be a flaw in the design, lol. The bottom plate is all metal, and when the CPU area gets hot, the whole plate gets hot.

Do you play games on it ? I mean when it gets really hot. When I play crysis wars my laptop gets warm. But when I'm in youtube etc I dont have any problems.

Yes just overheats whilst gaming, the heat however comes directly from the RAM, its not as though the CPU is overheating. I'll check the installed memory later.

Sorry for bring this back, but my R1 got same issue. After 2hours of SC2, HWmonitor reported a max of 65* on the GPU, 55-60 on CPU. But the true problem is the left palmrest became so hot that i couldnt rest my palm on.

Will reapplying MX-3 thermal paste on CPU and GPU solve the problem, or does it worth doing so?

edit: actually the left of the lappy become hotty. is that the place where CPU&GPU are?

I dont see anything wrong with those temps- especially after a 2 hour gaming session.

Just be sure to elevate the system in the rear - a CD Jewel case is good - basically, make sure you are giving the system good free airflow.

You can replace the factory thermal compound however if you are new to this, I wouldn't advise it on the 11x. Very tight and tough to get at.

The left side of the palm rest is your RAM. :( Its going to generate heat.

Pulled the base off the laptop on the weekend and noticed the nameplate is directly below the cpu/gpu and cooling pipe so it wasnt the ram overheating.

+1 to keeping the fan intake unrestricted, i found even having it on an angle on my lap still didnt allow adequate thruflow. On a desk it is no problem even after couple hours gaming.

Has anyone reapplied thermal paste with good results?

It's normal for the RAM to heat up but chances are that if your gaming, it's the GPU thats heating up. The base being metal helps to conduct heat and pull it away from the system, just make sure the fan intake is unrestricted. The system isn't really too powerful to overheat. Just monitor temps. I've never seen the M11x (R1 in my case) get anywhere close to being hot and I've been to lazy to reapply thermal paste. Not really worth it on the M11x since it never gets past the 60's for temp. But it is something I generally like to do because it makes me feel good to do it. even if it only drops temps by a single degee.

I've managed to push the CPU temp to 80 C and the GPU temp to near 70 C in my m11xr2 with folding@home. as said, the badge is directly above/below the CPU/GPU, so it WILL get hot.
