Wikipedia says " by the end of 2011 a second revision of the motherboard design used on the R3 series was made available on a limited amount of laptops, this second version used the more powerful Nvidia GF108 chipset, the GT 550M with 1GB video memory"

I was an early adopter, bought my R3 in May 2011. When did this other revision start shipping? Is 550M much better than 540M and what is the significance of the GF108 chipset?

Any outward differences/recognizable signs for these "late 2011" M11X R3s?

Overclock the GT 540M by 68 Mhz and you will have a GT 550M.

    GT 540M.

    GT 550M.
