I jumped from the R1 to the R3.

I thought one of the benefits to Optimus was that you could always run the latest/greatest Nvidia driver?

I'm getting an error when attempting to install the latest driver from Nvidia's site, saying it can't find hardware...

Give it time. We will see this eventually go away. The reason this happens is simply that the GPU DeviceID is not included in the current verde driver release (INF). A modified INF file will work. My suggestion - if the stock Dell driver works with your gaming titles, stick with it for now.

The links in the thread do not work anymore...

I am really new to the GPU situation here... normally I just allow the stock rig to run everything with no need to tweek...

How do I know when I am use the Intel Integreated Graphics versus the GT540? I have the profiles set up in my Nvidia 3d section, but I never really know if there is any switching occuring here.

Also, in the 3D profile, I cannot set up profiles for steam titles that do not .exe's on my machine - will the general steam profile work for all steam games?

    Thanks for the input.

    Ok fine QUESTION

Is this problem updating video drivers like the problem r2's had a while back, where you had to manually replace inf files? Just wondering.

The exe's for Steam games are in the Steamapps\common folder.

I applied the Nvidia Update using the ini hack... works great now! Something was missing from the stock driver.

    Thanks all!

ok Can't update graphics Drivers? is not working that i wrote a guide there someone delete the post....

    step by step:

download the GPU driver from NVIDIA or from NVIDIA & Laptop News | Latest NVIDIA drivers and related news | laptopvideo2go.com
then you have to download the .INF file (a modified file that which enables you to install the drivers): Look for you OS version and more instructions at Drivers | drivers for mobile cards and laptops | laptopvideo2go.com

when you already have the drivers and the .INF try to install the driver, choose for location files, (eg c:\nvidia) at that location will unzip the files
then...app can not install saying it can't find hardware...wherever... and the application quits...no problem
go to the location where you unzipped the files (eg c:\nvidia) and then copy the. INF that you get from LaptopVideo2Go, replaces the original file

    thats all!

    good luck!

I grabbed the inf from the Dell drivers and replaced the one in the NViDiA drivers folder. Seems to have worked, not sure if that means I am missing some setting though.

The default driver that came with it from 267.21 freezes World of Warcraft and Counter-Strike Source and you can't even end task them on task manager and if you try shutting down or restarting, it will just show on screen shutting down forever.
