Did a quick search and didn't see anything...

Can anyone describe or have a picture of the different case for the r1 and r2? I'm thinking of the r1 cosmic black, but the r2 soft touch case sounds nice?

    Any opinions on this?

Indeed correct, the R1 has a glossy looking finish where as the R2 has the soft touch rubberish feel.

After owning both, I much prefer the R2's soft touch as the R1's a fingerprint magnet.

However after 9 months of what I would careful use, the soft touch rubberish stuff is pealing at the corners..... not good. Ill try getting a pic up for you.

    Edit: Here :)

Ouch. I figured this stuff will eventually peel. Most electronics with this rubber finish do.

Yeah, Soft Touch Black peels after a while, but Cosmic Black shows scratches. Pick your poison. I wish I got a Lunar Shadow R2.

Also, don't forget about the R2's lack of a VGA port.

I have a Cosmic Black R1 and to me, it looks more metallic than glossy. I know people say it's a fingerprint magnet but honestly it's not that bad at all. I personally prefer it to the R2 soft touch black (though the latter is indeed nice).

I wish they offered a red version like they do in the 15/17in models... :(

Just pulled the trigger and bought the base r1 from Dell outlet for $450 with free shipping. I was hoping for the metallic look.

    Thissss!

    I would've been all over that... TWICE! (one for each m11x I have - R1 and 2)

Sucks knowing that my previous R2 will eventually start peeling. It'll likely happen sooner than later because I'm always taking it on the go. :(

This image best shows the difference between the R1 and R2. R1 on right, R2 on left.

    That is ridiculously cheap.

$450 is within spitting distance of netbook prices.

I have a R2 and its not as those have described. It doesn't feel soft at all. It feels like hard plastic on top and the bottom feels like metal. <-- Lunar Silver

My R2 looks like the R1 posted above by DavyGT

There is also a VGA port on the left side of the R1.. so there is a difference of the ports on the left side

Go with Lunar Silver, I have seen them all in person now. First I liked Cosmic, but it was a magnet for dirt and prints. Then I liked Soft Touch (it's not glossy, so no fingerprints). However, I took a chance and then ordered Lunar Silver, and was amazed. It is incredibly high quality looking, far more sleek than the Soft Touch, and doesn't really gather prints or grime.

I was very nervous about it, but in the end, I would have kicked myself if I ever ran into the Lunar silver after buying a black one.

I ended up not having a choice, I was able to get an R1 for only $450, I'll take whatever color it comes as. :)

Lunar Shadow is the best...and that's because you wont get scratches, and you don't have to worry about fingerprints all over the laptop. Silver however, does get boring after a while despite it being the easiest color to take care of.
To be honest, I'd much rather have the laptop in Nebula Red though. Maybe the R3 will have this as an option.

I decided to go with the Soft Touch Black and couldn't be happier. It looks like a stealth bomber in laptop form. I use the all Red FX colors and got a Razer Naga Molten edition to play SC2 with. I don't use it outside the office much but it does make my friends jealous when we go play SC2 together.
