    I've seen the thread for whitelisting programs before but now I can't find it anywhere. I've hunted high and low, to no avail so can someone please link me to the stuff I need to whitelist programs so I can switch graphics cards without closing them?
    Cheers

    White listing is something the r2/r3 does with optimus. The r1 cant do that.

    You can. To let you use fn+f6 without closing certain apps.

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Hybrid]
    "ShowManageBlockingProgramsUI"=dword:00000001
    Try put the above into a text file and name it something.reg then run it and restart Windows.
    You should then be able to add programs to the green icon near the clock.

    Do not do this if you are using the old Forceware 197.72 driver.

    Can I get more information on this?

    What specifically is that registry tweak doing? It appears to be simply removing the nag screen showing which programs to close.

    If so, then why show it in the first place? What ill-effects would switching GPUs with programs running would appear after running this tweak?

    You're essentially right there. It's normally fine if you haven't got videos playing or webcam sessions going. I used to have an old ASUS with switchable ATi graphics and it would occasionally freeze something gpu accelerated but it usually worked.
    I just want to use it for the convenience.
