@The Doctor - how hard would it be to remove the su7300or4100 and install the su9600? I know it's soldered in. I wonder if a shop could remove it for you. I just dont have the micro tools for that sort of work. BW, StevenX

Are these chips BGA soldered to the motherboard? If so it would probably be pretty expensive to have done, and would it still OC like normal through the bios? I did just spy a su9600 on ebay BIN for $99

appears that they are BGA. If you have the equipment to do it, its pretty easy, if not, it is one tedious job...not worth it if you don't have the equip. However, unlocking the tme is not a big deal, just voids the warranty..so we'll probably see a bunch of peeps roll it out early next year.

I'm very interested in the possibilities of upgrading the CPU. What are the chances that it would actually work? I've been wondering why no one has mentioned it yet.

Will our motherboards (BIOS) allow for higher speed C2D's? If so I would love to see someone be a guinea pi......err try it :p

i think that a Bios mod to set the volt up and multi will be easy than replace the CPU.

One of the Asus guys with the same processor managed 2300 plus on his 7300.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/att...-ul80vt-ul50vt-beyond-turbo-mode-4forum9a.jpg

No voltage mods were involved, but he was using 1333 rated mem. According to him the clock was stable and he ran several benches with it. I would think this was an unusually good cpu, but it supports my early postulation that 2100 or better was within reach with this cpu. Given the mechanics of how the i series cpu's adjust their speeds on two vs. one core, 2100 on both cores at the same time should give the gen2's a serious run for their money.

Edit...something wrong with these guys pic's...showing an 8 multiplier but his gigaflops are same as those showing 1.9 overclock....fishy fishy fishy..However, there are a bunch of peeps in the 2 to 2.1 range so still some indication we can get there also.
