I know that the M11x usually uses Windows 7 home premium, but can I fresh install Windows 7 Ultimate? I am 99.9% sure but my gut instinct is just to ask first...

I have an SSD on the way and figure a fresh install is the best way to take full advantage of it.

Home premium is just a gimped version of the full OS... you should be fine as long as you have your drivers on hand.

I think your best and easiest option is to type your 7 Ultimate key into Windows Anytime Upgrade. With your M11x on-line it'll just download and install the extra bits needed for Ultimate.

    Give it a try...

If I was not switching the hard drive I would go about doing that, but it seems that I can get the most out of the SSD if I just do a fresh install. Thanks for the tip though.

I wouldnt waste the money on the ultimate version. If you dont need the windows xp mode for old apps ultimate is basically a waste of money

you can use third party programs that have better encryption instead of that bit locker

i have a 60Gb vertex2 in my desktop and all my programs load up in less than 1 sec. including FO3. loading a save file in FO3 takes about 2-5sec. and im on vista... so i would assume you would see even better performance with W7

omg.., totally wrong thread. lol sry.
