Ok, so Dell came last Wednesday and installed a new motherboard in my R1 after having problems with my SD Card and Bluethooth. Everything worked fine for the entire day after the new motherboard was installed. The next day after I booted up my R1 I noticed that the 335M graphics was not working right. I had the 260.99 driver installed on it at that time. I contacted Dell and they had me do a bunch of diagnostic tests on it. At that time the tech said that it was not hardware related and was a problem with windows and I needed to do a fresh install of windows.
I then did a full format and clean install of windows and called Dell back to do a driver install as I was told to do. After doing a clean install and driver install Dell said that there is a problem with the Graphics Processor on the Motherboard and the that motherboard will have to be replaced. The motherboard was installed 3 days prior to this call to Dell and 1 day prior to this problem happening.
My question is would the 260.99 driver cause a problem with the GPU? When I enable the 335M to play games I get a black screen after it switches over. I have to restart my R1 in order for it to correct back to the integrated one. I have also installed the factory drivers from the Dell webite and I still get a black screen. My integrated Intel GPU works fine. Does anyone think that this might just be a driver problem or is it most likely a hardware problem with the motherboard?

It's unlikely the new driver is to blame if you're experiencing a black screen when enabling the 335m over a variety of progams. If you haven't done so, remove 260.99 and reload the last driver that worked for you.
Just fyi, this wouldn't be the first time someone received faulty hardware in a field service. Thankfully, it's a rare occurance and dell seems to be great about getting techs out quickly.
Good luck! -
Unfortunatly this happened just on a friday night when Dell put in the service call for the new motherboard. Have to wait all weekend and probably till tuesday to get it replaced. Dell did say that if this happened again that I would be eligable for a product replacement. -
Using the 260.99 drivers off of Nvidia's site will disable your ability to use integrated graphics on your R1. I'm thinking after you installed those drivers and you tried to switch graphics, it was actually trying to switch to the integrated graphics, which will not work anymore. To be able to use both dedicated and integrated graphics on the R1, you have to use Dell's 197.72 drivers or the custom ones on the forums. Installing drivers from either Nvidia's site or Intel's will make you lose the other graphics mode. This is only for R1, R2 can use the newer Nvidia drivers off of their site.
I would get one of those driver cleaner programs to clean any traces of video drivers and reinstall the Dell drivers and see if that fixes your problem. -
I was using the Hybrid 260.99 driver that someone created on this forum. I didnt get it from Nvidia's website. I have uninstalled it and deleted it and installed every other driver from Dell and still get the black screen. The Dell tech that had control of my R1 used the GURU3d program when installing the drivers.
Do you think that there is still a trace of the driver on the system that might be causing the problem? -
I'm not sure. If it were me, I would try to clean install the Dell drivers again just in case it might be the modified drivers causing the problem. Does it list the Nvidia and Intel card separately in the device manager? If it does, I would uninstall both before reinstalling the Dell drivers. Besides that, I'm not sure what else to do since you already reinstalled Windows and still had issues. Hopefully an informed R1 user will see this thread and provide more help.

i had the same problem on my R1!! and its NOT a problem with the gt335m, its the 260.99 driver. in your bios switch to discrete and install the newest beta driver from nvidia. everything has been worked out since then
you need to reinstall windows, and get the new driver. and also something that can couse this problem is if your using the uxstyle core beta for using custom themes, that also couses the same thing to happen -
When I switch to discreate mode in Bois it reboots it spits the 1 screen into 6 screens on the 1 screen. basicly if I look at my screen after I switch to discreate mode I see 6 of the same screen on 1.
What is xustyle core beta? -
ahhh that sounds like it could actualy be your gpu. sorry about that man.
but uxstyle core beta is a program that patches system files in windows 7 so you can use custom desktop themes. in some cases it can cause the screen to go blank -
sounds like they replaced it with a another defective referb. Dell is known to do this for repairs
-
thats just a bunch of bullspit. when they replace parts it should be new parts. i cant believe they would do that
-
Well they have been hearing from me constantly in the last few days. called back again tonight complaining. They are actually extending my warranty for only $40
-
I can make money off you too DELL -
Yeah, Im going to call tomorrow and complain more and see what I can get out of them. I mean come on, 2 MB's in 1 week and 2 batteries in 3 months?? Thats just not right at all. -
you could demand there 256gb samsung ssd LOL =p
-
Well i dont think that is going to go over well with Dell. LOL But I will let you know what I get out of them tomorrow when I call in. What did you guys have to do to get high dollar items from Dell? -
alrighty. and i actualy havent gotten much from them, iv only had a dell repair guy come and replace my keyboard, i did a pinmod to overclock to the official 1.73 ghz. and you know what? if i need anything fixed they would never know i did it anyway because cutting that extremely small pin on the motherboard is sooo tiny they would never in a million years notice. so im technically not under warenty but there never gonna know haha.
-
well got a new motherboard in it and all is good. Now I have a service call for my keyboard because I think the service tech messed up my keys somehow.. hmmmmm... more intensives from Dell???
-
well thats good on the mother board end, but i had my keyboard replaced too. you could always try and say you have had way to many problems with it and ask if they could do anything more. lol =p
Problems with 335M next day after Dell replaced new Motherboard
