My M11x R1 has suddenly become unresponsive while launching games. Whether it's Sam and Max through Steam or Mass Effect 2 from a (purchased used) disk, the games that it launched fine within the first few days I had it have stopped launching. While launching them, they just hang at the launcher or they don't load after clicking on them. Additionally, for some odd reason, the "Games" shortcut in the start menu has stopped working.

Finally, the system can never actually shut down sometimes while it is in the shut down process. This seems software-based, but I didn't install anything new from when the games were working fine and now. I don't have any virus according to Mcafee and common sense, plus I don't want to reinstall Windows on a two week-old system that already tens of GBs of games installed. Ideas?

See what the Application and System event logs have to say.

Also, nuke McAfee from orbit as soon as possible and go with Avast or MSE. Seriously.

I was planning to get rid of McAfee, I was just too lazy to do so yet. Thanks, I'll check the Application and System event logs. Note: Windows is still a pos in terms of stability (I ditched Windows completely two years ago, I only came back because Windows 7 seemed decent enough to play PC games I was missing).

I've owned Macs since the mid-90s, including my current MBP. I also support amost 250 of them every day. They have their warts too.

Removing McAfee got rid of my game launching problems, and probably my shut down issues. The more I'm starting to like my M11x, another problem comes along. I'm gonna guess the left side of the display shouldn't make a quiet click sound if I wobble my M11x or move the display. There's a gap on the left hinge, so maybe... Damn :(. But that's for the hinge thread.
