Maybe this is why we don't get any pictures/info. We're so eager to get benchies, pictures, runs, videos that...

... people simply don't want to do it, because they feel like they are being ordered or pushed into doing it. I've noticed that there are even people who don't say thank you, after people have posted their benchmarks - even people who requested them. That's sorta messed up IMO!

    Ok Guys,

My m11x R2 in soft touch black has just arrived!! :D

And here are the unboxing pics:

The soft touch black is a nice smooth rubber texture. Doesn't leave any fingerprints when touched at all.

Now I got to take off for work!! I'll try to do some benchmark after work.

    matey a few questions;

    - how is the hinge?
    - is there a gap when the machine is closed between the screen and the keyboard surface?
    - can you meassure some temperatures under load?
    - 3dmark 06 run? :D
    - game performance impressions? :D

    Thanks for the rep!!

    1) I don't have anything to compare this to, but the hinge feels solid and smooth, no creaks or squeeks.

    2) When the laptop is closed and placed horizontally it looks pretty flush and resting on the 2 side rubber stops. Now if you place it on its side vertically, then it does separate a little but evenly.

    3) How do I measure the temperature?

    4) I'm at work now, but I'll try to sneak a 3dmark06 run, if not definitely tonight.

    5) Game performance testing will have to wait til tonight. But i'm just as anxious as you guys!

    Nice mate! Good job!

    3) Measuring temperature can be done with programs like GPU-Z. You basically can run 3dmark 06, with gpu-z running, and it will measure the temperature of the GPU at the same time. that way you can see the temperature under load!

    5) Nice. I would love to see how GTA4, performs, if you have that game! Very CPU demanding :D

I love you guys. You are like R2 pioneers!

    See here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m11x/492232-m11x-r2-benchmarks.html

Initial indications are (for Crysis SP Demo) that there's not much (if any) of an improvement in FPS (actually in one instance the R1 bests the R2 by 2 FPS average - not really a big deal - but not a good reason either to upgrade to the i7 solely for FPS increase..).

That just means Crysis is GPU limited with the 335, not CPU limited. I bet when folks get around to benching BFBC2 or GTA:IV you will see the benefits (+15-25% is my guess with reduced graphics set). It would also be great if we could see a comparison of minimum frame-rates vs. just the average.

Agreed - and if you'll go to the thread above - the min/max FPS are posted side-by-side. No difference - or at least - minimal difference (i.e. < 1 FPS in any given situation). Tests were run with the same exact settings on both R1 and R2.

Yes - in a CPU intensive game like BFBC2 or GTA:IV - I'd expect to see a potential increase... It'll be real interesting, however, if that doesn't become true.. ;)

I'm now relying on the Bad Company 2 benchmark to determine whether I buy this or not. I've got a great quote... just need to find out if it'll run the game I want it to run.

Crysis has always been a gpu heavy game until all the heavy physics like explosions come in to play... which dont in the benchmark i dont think? Does the benchmark have AI running around in it or is it just the landscape?

You will see big gains in Source based games, World of Warcraft, GTA4, and anything thats cpu bound. Also BF BC2 will see a nice jump due to the higher IPC and extra HT threads.

Oh yeah... anyone want to give L4D2 a shot in addition to BF:BC2?

I honestly don't consider WoW benchmarks to be at all worthwhile to look at. Why? Because it runs well on just about anything (albeit at reduced settings). I get 30-60 FPS on my X3100 (I've got a 2.4GHz T8300 C2D), with dips into the 20s during 25 man raids. Unlike competitive FPS titles, WoW is more about learning the mechanics behind the game, as opposed to hyperfast framerates to dodge the boss abilities.

True but WoW is highly CPU bound. There will be a difference trust me. Games like Crysis and COD MW2 will see little to 0 boost in extra performance except maybe in minimum frame rates.

In the youtube video, the alienware rep says that the m11x r2 gets about 5 - 5.5hours of battery life. Is that accurate?

seriously i only bought the m11x for battery life and modern warfare 2. So the r2 version has nothing more value for me. I know I kinda sound like frustrated buyer because of the recent release, but I'm actually really serious. The only advantage is if you play more CPU based games like WOW, still real life experience has proven that nobody had any problems playing WOW on high settings on the r1. Maybe the game will load faster, but enhanced gaming experience? I think you're losing battery life and getting the same gaming experience.

    just my 2cents :)

they also said the m11x has 8 hours of battery life which is in real life 6 hours with normal use. So I would guess 3 hours with normal use, the r2.

Well, we have not seen any numbers on that. Techincally the R2 with an i7 has a 18W TDP including the Intel graphics. The R1 as 15W for the C2D and 8W? for the Intel chip for a total of ~23W.

So techincally I dont see why the R2 would get worse battery life under the same conditions.

Edit: I think what they could have meant is that the R2 get less battery life under load, since the i7 drains more than the c2d under load. But at idle browsing the web and such you should get a better or equal battery life.

Well numbers, he specificly said 5,5 hours to which he directly compared to 7,5 hours of the r1. (we can safely assume the (5,5 hours are the absolute maximum, as he is not going to give a lower estimate, he is still promoting the r2 :))
