Page file is using the resource from the HDD or SSD as memory but when it comes to an SSD losing 8GB of space is huge so you can disable it and it will utilise the RAM instead, however some programs do require a page file to run.

I just drop mine down to a lower number (200)... no need to loose 8gb on my ssd for pagefile.

I have heard that some games run better with out pagefile on though.

Most people I see who turn it off do so to gain some space back on ssd drives.

Usually page file takes up the same amount of space as how much ram you have.

So for me it cleared up 8gb of space on my 128gb ssd... thats a whole extra game I can install on it.

what it does is to take some space from your hard drive and use it as RAM, if you have an SSD it is a big change but on the case of the HDD the change is not normally that big, our recommended size is a Minimum of 2048MB and a Maximum of 4096MB. #IWork4AW

    Paging file:

What it is: System use it like RAM if it has not enough memory.

Advantages: not much RAM (<4GB)? You still can work fine.

    Disadvantages:
    1. On HDD:

    - Slows down your system searching smth on your HDD. Hard drive becomes less responsible. Not so snappy. etc.
    - May become even worse if it is fragmented a lot.

    2. On SSD:
    - Eats your space.
    - Decrease life span because of rewrites.

How to lower fragmentation of paging file: force it some size. same for max and min.
How to increase responsiveness of the system: put it on the outter part of the HDD possible. Like create a partition at the beginning and move paging file there. or put it at the beginning of drive C.

What I suggest you: GO BUY AT LEAST 8 GB OF RAM AND LOWER PAGEFILE TO 32MB.

TO INCREASE FREE SPACE ON SSD: If you do not use hibernation on your computer you can delete file hyberfil.sys which is like 1x-1.5x of your amount of RAM. to delete it go to RUN and type without quotes "powercfg -h off".
To turn it on again change off on on.
