So on Sunday I called Dell up to tell them my computer was getting very hot and I was pretty sure it was overheating. I had already taken some temperatures while after playing Starcraft II. (91C). The first guy I talked to ran benchmark software and gpu-z and CPU-z. He only got up to 84C. I said ok. I calls again monday and another guy ram the same test. He got it all the way to 94C. He said that he would send out new cooling parts. He also offered me a RAM upgrade to 8gb from 4th if I extended my warranty(I did). So today the technician came by to install everything and fix my computer. Turns out they sent a brand new motherboard and not just a cooling system. This motherboard was actually a refurb from an r2. The RAM as also not shIpped with everything else as said it would be. So, he replaced the motherboard and when we tried to boot it up it didnt work. So now I'm stuck with a dead mono in my m11xr3 and still my stock 4gb of ram. One of my questions is does the new (replacement) MOBO have the old r2 CPU and GPU or will it have the CPU and gpu that I originally got? Now I'm just waiting to get a fall from either Dell or the tech. Any idea as to what to do about this? I'm also going to have them repast the thermal past when they come back.

Well first off an R2 mobo doesn't fit inside an R3, so i'm not sure who's got the wrong info.

Secondly, the CPU & both GPU's are integrated onto the motherboard, so if it really was an R2 you would have been getting a CPU (2nd gen to 1st gen) and GPU downgrade (540M to 335M), and RAM speed capped at 800MHz rather than 1333MHz.

find out from them exactly what is going on.

    +1.

R3 to R2, no way should you accept that as a fix!

    Regards.

Alright thanks a lot! Im still confused as to why the box said m11xr2 refurb on it. I'll ask when they come next time. There was one plug on top of the motherboard on the left side in front of the keyboard that was sideways instead of parallel with the screen but I don't think that's what you meant by "fit"

The mounts and spacing are all off, the size is the same but it just won't assemble together into the R3 chassis if it is indeed an R2 mobo. Not without some drilling and sawing and sanding and gluing. Not to mention the ports at the side won't match up.

It must be an R3 mobo if you got it all back together and attempted to boot, as the others have said an r2 wouldn't fit. On the subject I'm assuming an r2 mobo wouldn't fit an r1 either without modification?

Yes, I suppose it is an R3 mobo but I still want to know why it said r2 on the box... either way the dell rep I talked to on the phone said he would call today, 7:17 PM and still waiting. Haven't had contact from the tech guy, all I know is that he still has my old mobo. AND I still haven't received my RAM. Now when I called back Dell they tried to get me to send my computer back in. I know what the problem is. Any suggestions of how to go about getting a new mobo(if I can't get my old one back) and maybe some compensation for all this hassle?

Update: I have talked to the original Dell rep I talked to and once he heard that the tech guy took my mobo with him he reported it as an act of negligence to the supervisors and head honchos. He won't be working on my computer anymore. He's calling me on Saturday morning at 10 AM to get the new MOBO and RAM shipped out on Monday (probably tuesday since monday's a holiday). Hope it goes well this time. I'll let you know.
