Ok, so I just got off the phone with Dell/AW and here is the problem I am facing.

I am on my 3rd Motherboard on my R1 in less then a month. First replacement was for a bad SD card reader and Bluetooth module. Second replacement was because 335M Graphics on Motherboard was bad. Since this has been put in the machine I am getting constant BSOD referring to Hal.dll I have done a clean install of Windows 7 and this is still ongoing.

This is clearly a major problem and since I am out of warranty by 14 days they want to send me a box to send it in to a depot. I dont have the extra cash right now to extend the warranty on the machine or I would in a heart beat. Rep said that it would take 3-4 weeks before I got it back. I dont think that I should have to be with out my machine for 3-4 weeks because they keep putting a bad motherboard in the system.

What do you guys think that I should do? Just send it in a wait the amount of time? Or should I speak to a Supervisor and demand a replacement unit? Or what? I just dont want to them off and be put on a black list where they dont help me anymore.

Please let me know what you think

    Thanks

Did you originally pay for the system with a credit card? If so, check with your bank. Many cards will extend the manufacturer's warranty by a year.

usually after so many replacements of a certain part some companys issue a unit a new unit because of lemon policies.

but they are fixing the system and if they send it out not working im sure they will honor it. but i really dont know what your asking yea it sucks to wait 3-4 weeks but that happens and without the warranty that guarantees next business day service. They do not make a guarantee on return time.

I just want a replacement unit like I was told that if I had a problem again with my motherboard that I would get a replacement unit.

I ask to speak to a supervisor and the guy wouldnt even transfer me to one. He kept telling me that I have to send it in and wait the 3-4 weeks and if at that time then they will give me a replacement unit then.

I dont have the factory HDD in the unit and I want to know if I do send it in will they not do anything about it because i have a different HDD in the laptop?

No, the guy I got it from put a 500gb in it and did not give me the factory one with the laptop when I bought it. I do not have access to it. :(

If it is out of warranty and they are offering to fix it without pay, then I would say there's no reason to complain about a 3-4 week wait.

It's likely it'll take less time though, to be honest.

Well if thats the case I will deal with the BSOD. No way am I striping it and selling it for parts.

Just wondering if they have to give me a entire new unit will I loose the 500gb hdd?

wow, its compliacted here, in the case that you have a full replaced laptop, I think you should ask them to replace the new HDD by your old one cos' you have a lot of extremly important data there.

You could ask them. I thought I remembered reading that the HD was not a warranty-voider on this machine.

I see no reason why you can't send the laptop to Dell without the drive. Whenever we send an in warranty laptop to HP for repair we always remove the HDD.

As it's giving you a BSOD you may need to rule out a faulty HDD in the first place though. Do you have a spare drive you could temporarily install a clean os on?

I learned my out of warranty lesson long time ago.

Dell warranty usually pays for itself in time for sure.
