Welcome to the Alienware M11x Benchmark thread here on NBR. Here you can discuss benchmark results, tips, settings and of course post your results for the community to see... This thread will cover M11xR1, R2 and the new R3 systems.

There are several apps which can be used to benchmark your system. Following is a short list of some which are typically used. There are others and the core benchmarking members will have plenty of suggestions - so ask away.

A word of caution concerning benchmarking... While benchmarking / number chasing can be quite a bit of fun, please be aware that benchmarking/overclocking your system is pushing your system to its limits. It can and will stress your components. Do so at your own risk - nobody is responsible for this but you.

Finally, as with all threads here on NBR, please remember the forum rules when posting. Any images over 500x500 must be resized. Images embedded within posts which are over 500x500 will be removed. Repeat offenders will receive infractions. There is no reason you cannot take a moment to resize or use thumbnail previews. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation with this.

Have fun folks and lets see how far you can push the M11x! :D

(the previous M11x benchmark thread can be found here)

I need to do some benches on my M11x r1....maybe after I pin mod it (once the warranty is less of a concern)

It's not really the subject here, this thread is about benchmarks, not about pinmod...

    Pinmod = overclock -> benchmarking

I have a golden set of hyperx ram as well so I hope to be able to get around 2.1-2.4 GHz on the CPU

I have an SLG PLL so the Fsxl pinmod I believe, not sure on all the terminology yet

ahh ok, since you have the SLG you could either do the 1.73ghz mod, or 2ghz mod. (soldering a 10k resister to pins 7 and 55)
this is with OC mode on, and with OC mode off it will run at 2.4ghz, and cas6 1200mhz ram.

With OC mode off on the 2Ghz mod, it will run at 2.6Ghz (6.5x400) with the RAM at 1600mhz CAS6.

Remember with OC mode on, the 266mhz BSEL code is sent, which means you lose the 6.5 multiplier and the 4:1 memory to FSB memory ratio. With OC mode off, the opposite occurs.

oh alright, then how is the 2.4ghz mod done then? i thought for the longest time that if you did the 2ghz mod and forgot to enable overclock mode you would be at 2.4ghz

In addition to the 2Ghz pinmod, you need to connect pin 2 to 3.3v through a 10k resistor.

    M11xR1 SU7300 1.6Ghz BIOS A05(Modified V0.95)
    nVidia GT 335M (580/1415/880)

This is my 'standard' setting for test purposes i.e. not gaming or general use.
There was no artifacts and the clocking could go higher.
My GT 335M peaks at around 600 core and 900 memory clock.

These are some other 3DMark06 runs I did without removing MySQL, Apache, Adobe and USB storage, mouse etc etc..

    Original A05 BIOS 3Dmark06 - 6857 3DMarks using 580/1415/880
    Modified A04 BIOS 3Dmark06 - 6879 3DMarks using 580/1415/880
    Modified A04 BIOS 3Dmark06 - 6912 3DMarks using 590/1416/900
    Modified A05 BIOS 3Dmark06 - 6896 3DMarks using 580/1415/880
Modified A05 BIOS 3Dmark06 - 6952 3DMarks using 580/1415/880 (Optimized by removing processes, USB devices, etc)

Does show if one has an 'optimized' system one can easily get better results.

The following results are those of a standard M11xR1 1.6Ghz with volt mod BIOS

You may have had a moment. Was it good?

Using the same system(M11xR1 SU7300 clocked at 1.6Ghz) , but with a volt mod'd GPU ( not over-clocked), no SSD, standard memory and nVidia 260.63

Cool - after swearing I'd never overclock a notebook (less battery life, more heat yadda yadda yadda), I went ahead and did it anyway.

8200 on an R2 aint that bad :)

Edit: But, it does make me wince a little when my R2 Aurora, costing only $150 more, just hit 27,000 today and the only hardware change has been memory.

06 is easy for desktops as they tend to have considerable more cpu power

If it makes you feel better, you are comparing an ultra mobile laptop to a desktop....my M17x r1 did over 22k in 06 :D and it is 2 years old

What do you get in 3dMark 11?

It seems that 3Dmark 06 does not give a good estimate with directx 11 cards. It's finally becoming obsolete.

Anybody gonna comprehensively bench an r3? Would like to see alot of in-game benches done, not fps counter while playing but results from fixed benches like the ones found Far Cry2, Just Cause 2, or FF14.

    thought this was interesting...

went and did a 3Dmark06 run with Xp ad got this:

    Result

    compared to W7:

    http://3dmark.com/3dm06/15629501

seems the CPU benefited least from running XP. the Gfx tests is where the majority of the increase was.

The CPU score in 06 is not nearly as indicative as in Vantage and 11. You have to just look at the overall score.

Yea. I was just expecting Xp to be much less CPU needy than W7.

In the case of my Asus 1201n going from W7 to Xp gave me about a 10% increase in CPU score alone.

When are the R3 benches going to start showing up? I'm trying to get rid of my M17x-R2 and I'm trying to figure out just how much better then R3 is compared to the R2. Of course I'm still undecided if losing the USB 3.0 ports is a big deal to me or not since I currently use my esata on the M17x for my external HDDs. But seeing some good bench reviews I can compare to the R2 ones would be nice.

Nah, numbers don't tell me much from those sort of programs. I want to see some game tests. 3dmark just doesn't mean anything to me as they are meant to tax the machines in ways games normally don't. I've never even touched those programs on my m17x's. o_O

I guess I should have been more clear about that but yea... it's hot and this MBP is burning my legs off. So this is my excuse for not thinking straight. Pardon me while I go grab a bag of frozen peas...

    Crysis
    FarCry 2
    Mafia 2
    RE5
    Just Cause 2

That I know of off the top of my head, there are many others as well

Just thought that I would post this benchmark. I'm new to the forums so I hope this works.

    Result

I have my i7 overclocked all the way in the bios and my gpu settings were:

    Core: 837
    Shader: 1674
    Memory: 1080

    Temps:
    CPU:72
    GPU:68

There were some minor artifacts during the 3Dmark run.

Yeah, I saw that 3Dmark listed the integrated graphics but the 540M was used for the benchmark.

My specs for my laptop are:

    i7-2617M, 8GB DDR3, 160 Gb Intel 320 SSD, 540M GPU.

CreepingDeath: Nice score and welcome to NBR.

Altsein: If his laptop wasn't using the Nvidia GPU then he wouldn't be within a hair of 10,000. That's an excellent score for a M11x-R3. 3DMark06 is 5 years old and doesn't report what GPU it's using correctly. Old benchmark and this is an old bug.

    Nice results,

    Just Benched mine using 3dmark06,

    HTML:
    http://3dmark.com/3dm06/15740993
Result = 9459 with graphics OCed to 770/1080/1540 using nvidia system tools. This is the standard OC I use as if I OC the graphics clock more it artifacts a little on crysis 2 but not other games. Will try pushing graphics clock higher see if it gets any better.

    Stock graphics I got 8418.

    i7-2617, 8GB ram, 275 drivers.

I sold my M11x some year ago, but ? How'd you hit 8k? I saw most people at the time maxing out at 6800. Just browsing the forums and saw this. Damn amazing... overclocking GPU further? CPU OC? Details please, as I loved my M11x and glad to see it still doing a damn good job.

If anyone is interested in seeing how overclocking cpu and gpu can boost the performance of bad company 2 i have some benchs...

    I have a M11x R2 core i7 4Gb RAM HD 500Gb

    Running:
Bad Company 2 - Beginning of High Value Target (Min Fps at big explosion)
Settings - All High, Shadows Low, no AA, 16x AF, no HBAO, vsync on
    Resolution 1366x768

    CPU no OC Throttlestop
    GPU no OC Powermizer disabled

    FPS (Fraps) - Max 63, Min 19, Average: 47.480

CPU OC at 160Mhz FSB Throttlestop
GPU OC at 540/1296/860 Powermizer disabled

    FPS(Fraps) - Max 63, Min 21, Average: 53.575

So, overclocking both cpu and gpu gives me around 6 fps. That's good for me, especially when i play in full hd.

I played BC2 for hours with this OC and is perfect stable, but i don't know why i can't play crysis when i overclock the gpu. Even with the slighest gpu overclock i get bsod. Benchs like occt and ati tool are perfect fine too. Anyone have some idea? Are crysis running nice in the r2 when you overclock your gpu?
