Hi guys it's me again. This time it's not anything spectacular or some new and latest drivers that Nvidia have release. But something that I have tested that in general works quite well at least for me. Feel free to test out this driver for your R2 if you like to.

Do note that especially for those are already running with the 258.89 modded drivers you will lose the Optimus State Viewer that came with it. However so far most games I have tested work well. Do note that this is not the stock drivers that Dell initially posted. That was 189.69 and it doesnt work with SC2 as far as I have tested.

One thing to note is this drivers will benefit those who play online games that have PB, NProtect and such running which wont work with any of the 25x.xx set that has been release so far including the last driver that Dell have posted. Ok enough talks. Feel free to test them at your own will and post result if you do. Remember this is not for 3DMark benchmark :p

Usual disclaimer, use it at your own risk! It does not come with any warranty neither from me nor Dell.

Simple extract it to a folder and run the setup. If you are running on any higher driver versions I would advise you to driver sweep first before proceeding on the installation. Instructions can be found on my previous post for 258.89 post which you can search it on this forum. :)

Thanks for the post. I'm curious though, was there a specific game that you felt these drivers work better for. I'm, of course, directly interested in run WC3 so if you have any performance numbers on that, it would be nice. But I'm also curious as to why this driver set was attractive.

I dont have WC3 so I cant give you any numbers on that. Maybe you can try it yourself. Honestly if it doesnt work well for you can always revert back to what you are more comfortable with. I put up these drivers specifically for fellow mates here who wish to over come PunkBuster issue or Nprotect and others alike. Since with the newer drivers it forbid them to play online as they will get kick due to multiple direct3d detected or some sort. The stock drivers 189.69 initially release with the laptop does not have issue with games like BFBC2 online however with that driver you wont be able to play SC2 as Nvidia dont seems to kick in even when it's in whitelist. This driver however is not the case. This would gives BFBC2 players able to continue to enjoy their online fps while allowing them to pwn others in SC2 as well. I think this is a good thing so I just thought to share. I dont have every single game out there that everyone of you own so obviously I cant test everything to make sure it works in all your game library. However as far as what I own I am sure they all work fine.

One thing I have to highlight thou, For games that support PhysX so far a tested a couple all seems to work fine with the 0224 release previously as well as the most current one which I have just posted 20mins ago. But for some reason ME2 will not work as it cant detect the PhysX. The only known work around is to uninstall PhysX and let steam install it's version and ME2 will work. But due to that version that steam install is an older version, might cause compatibility issue to newer games. This is the only known issue I found so far. But its no biggie as you can always just uninstall and install the correct PhysX to have the game running and revert to the latest for the rest of the games that require PhysX. I think this is better than rolling back the entire video drivers just to play one game.

I was about to upgrade to 258.69 with the modded .inf. Is the built in state viewer in 258.69 any different than the external one posted by Nautis?

Anything else we should worry about?

    Thanks a lot! +1

My two main games right now are BFBC2 and SC2 so I will definately try these out. I'll report back if I into any quirks.

    Thank for posting these!

i think you got the wrong one. 258.69 does not come with the state viewer. its the beta release where Nautis posted his modded inf to support R2. However at later time i have posted 258.89 which is the current WHQL release from Nvidia with Nautis's help. It added support for the state viewer.

it really depends on what you are looking for. 258.89 is a very nice driver set which I think most who use it would agree with me. one of the best optimus drivers out there atm. However the only drawback with it is it still doesnt fix the issue with PB which forbid BFBC2 players from playing online. Performance and image quality wise its a very nice set of drivers.

if you dont need PB, Nprotect or other online anti cheat support. I would advise you to go with 258.89. one thing thou, so far it seems like this driver runs SC2 slightly better as far as report goes so far. its entirely up to what you looking for. no drivers perfect atm. get what suits you more. :)

Thanks for the info. It's very helpful. As a separate data point, I've tried these drivers with WC3 with no success. I'm still getting 10-20 fps. On a side note, is there a less intrusive fps measure than fraps? I heard fraps may cause issues with game performance.

did you use optimus state viewer to ensure that its running on GT335M and not Intel?

sorry that it does not help you but I am pretty sure this set runs well with WOW which I know in the thread ppl kinda relate the problem between the 2

@jacquelo you mentioned wc3: just type /fps in game or if you're playing sc2 just control-alt-f it up :)

As for performance impacts, if you're just using fraps as an fps monitor it shouldn't have any noticable impact.
If you are recording your gaming sessions with it then you will definetly feel the effects.
The only real solution to record your gaming without any performance hit is to use external recording hardware... e.g. a capture card off your external input or a camera looking at your screen.

I do remember reading that using the hdmi output on the m11x would slightly impact video performance even if you don't change the resolution though...

Thank you for posting this... I am big into the Battlefield series and all of their games use Punkbuster.

I guess it's a good thing I was lazy and didn't upgrade for 256.89 yet.

I just got my M11X i7 and am downloading SC2 right now (from Bnet)...which driver should I install for the best SC2 experience?

I really haven't updated drivers before (not a PC gamer) so I am not sure if I should get these modded ones or the Dell (257.x) ones?

    thanx

Dell only posted 2 drivers so far for M11xR2.

189.69 - Initial release (Stock Drivers)
257.30 - First release as beta and now its WHQL (current listed download on Dell Support)

    Does this answer you question?

i think it varies from ppl to ppl for some reason. dont ask me why as i have no idea. but i would say best driver should be the modded 258.89. this driver i posted is mainly for users who need PB support yet they have SC2. This would be the best driver available

This driver made my PC crash like 4 times when playing different games (MOHAA, SC2, CSS)... I mean the game freezes and you cannot even move the cursor...
so then, I installed the latest dell driver (which I believe is more stable) and I haven't seen any crashes yet...

Kopicha, have you checked 189.86->189.99 to check if they are Optimus capable? Easiest way to tell is the updatussetup.exe file.

did you driver sweep before installing this since i believe u should be coming from the newer driver and down version? other games i wouldnt want to comment but SC2 crash is impossible. i played it continously over 3hrs without a crash

so far I only spotted that 189.88 has Optimus support. However the drivers dont seems to be stable. Was testing with BFBC2 and it crash the game after 30mins or so. Not the PB crash but the entire system just freeze. Still need more testing.

are there any benefits to it that you can tell? There nothing you can do to combine the 2XX with the 189XX vid card queing to maybe make a hybrid thats more recent but allows BFBC 2?

I have cant really determine too much difference as I have not done enough testing with 189.79 before I start working on the 189.88 set. Sorry. But right now I have 189.88 set running perfectly fine on my machine. I seems to feel everything run pretty smooth. Intially I had a crash with BFBC2 during the first test but I think I did something wrong with the inf. Thus I have corrected the inf accordingly and did a reinstallation. Now BFBC2 is running without crash anymore. SC2 runs really smooth to me as well. Same goes to Just Cause 2 and WOW. Those are pretty much I am testing with now on 189.88.

Regarding the question of hybrid. Honestly I gave this a thought before. But after experimenting the 25x.xx and compare them to 189.xx drivers, thats when I started to figure the root cause why newer drivers have issue with PB which is what I mention earlier. It has something to do with the new D3D API call that Nvidia have implemented in the newer drivers for Optimus. With this new API it allow apps/games to easier see our GPU but that is also what causes the Multi D3D Device detected issue on PB. I am still looking for possibility of combining a hybrid version. As for now its unlikely possible when looking at it. But I have yet to give up and still looking for a possibility.

As for now the only temporary measure would be to rely on these 189.xx drivers to continue to gain access to games that uses PB and such until PB decide to update to support us or Nvidia to step in and do something about it.

From my experience, I don't get kicked with the 189.79. I get kicked with the 189.88 drivers, though. Stay with the 79s.
