Dear First Generation Crew, I have downloaded and installed this driver in discrete mode. I benched several games before installing this driver and after. I have also been benching BFBC2 a lot this evening in different matches.

<edit> no real difference in drivers except loss in fps on BFBC2... My advice is to stick with 258.96...<edit>

    Best wishes, StevenX

    Hi Steven,

    Interesting benchmarks.

I know you are talking 259.47 in the context of disabling Hybrid Graphics and using only the Nvidia GPU. I just wanted to note that 259.47 being from Windows Update has all the proper files needed for making it into a true Hybrid Graphics driver. The two files needed that are a bit different than the originals but are included with 259.47 are nvbridge_int.kmd (Intel capable bridge) and nvdisp_IH.nvu (an Uninstall file which includes the Intel files). With the Nvidia drivers and those two files all that is needed is the Intel drivers and a INF setup for Hybrid Graphics with proper settings. (Heh..)

Note: Intel Graphics drivers above 8.15.10.2020 will not work with Intel GMA 4500MHD based Hybrid Graphics notebooks like the M11x(R1).

I will post up an INF here for proper Hybrid Graphics with 259.47 on the M11xR1. (A template so you can see how it works.)

I am re-downloading the latest physx and try 258.96 again. I am not 100 percent certain the "shrink wrap" benchmarks are correct for this driver. I was playing crysis at my current save/load location and it just didn't feel as fluid. I know for certain, exact same settings that BFBC2 was smoother on previous driver. It was apparent right from the start. Still testing.. So I will chime in later.

<edit> Later it is.. another hour on crysis and I think the drivers are about the same.. I dont know how the bench produced higher marks but I stand corrected..I will email Batboy and see if he can remove the original post <edit>

    Thanks, StevenX

And what's the reason for new drivers not working? They've stopped the development for hybrid drivers?

Btw, mine is 8.15.10.1994 i wonder what's the changes from 1994 to 2020.

Anyway, Nautilus when you'll create your custom hybrid 8.15.10.2020 + 259.47 can you upload it somewhere? Or maybe create new thread so we could discuss it?

This is very interesting... So this driver package is only available from Windows Update? If so, what would I need to do to have Windows Update notice that I *needed* this driver set for my M11xR1?

Did this ever get posted here?

@Testosterone850 - Thanks for the feedback. Kopicha and Nautis do an awesome job with driver support for us. If not for them most R1/R2 owners would be in the stone age. I just try to benchmark, provide real results, and research any operating system tweaks we can utilize to squeeze out a few extra FPS. Some folks say that 2 fps or 3 fps doesnt matter. When your at 27fps in a game, 3 more is GOLDEN! Best wishes, StevenX

I'm guessing work is still being undertaken to provide a usable switchable nVidia 259.47 driver.
Thank you for all the time and effort you put into this for us peeps.

I have a new 260.63 package for M11xR1 users to test. Not 100% that it will work perfect so I need some testing... drop me a PM if you want the link.

Steven, Nautis, I admit I haven't gone back and read everything you've posted on the R1 vid drivers, BUT, a quick bottom line: Have you found a *material* (i.e. noticeable) improvement in the newer drivers over the latest version on the alienware support site?. Since my gaming is pretty much limited to WOW and an as yet unreleased competitor, I have to say I have no complaints w the performance of the driver I got from the support site which has been amazingly stable (especially when compared to those from HP/AMD on my envy15.

I don't have an M11xR1 so I cant really comment on its performance with newer drivers. I wouldn't expect there to be too much of a performance difference really, maybe in some newer games or games that might have issues. The control panel is much quicker though. :p

The drivers released by dell/alienware are much more recent than many other OEMs release, so if you don't have any issues or complaints I would stick with them.

Hey guys. I am used the dell/alienware nvidia drivers from the support site and ran 3dmark 06, and got 6490. I switched my BIOS to discrete and installed the 258.96 drivers from the nvidia website and reran 3dmark06. My score went down to 6330.

I know 3dmark is a generic benchmark program and doesnt determine how the actual games run; as soon as I have had a spin at starcraft 2 and other games I will report back. :)

So, again thanks to dell for providing above average support. I just think some people have very unrealistic expectations.

PS. I know this is random but just wanted to give a shout out to all the people that contribute to the forum (steven, nautis, slickie, etc) and everyone that has been helpful to me. :D

Well, apparently 3dmark is only useful to a degree... I played starcraft 2 and crysis and it appears the 258.96 drivers do run better than the dell one's. Ill just switch to the dell drivers when I need the extra 2 hours battery life. :)

I could boost some of the starcraft 2 settings to higher than with the older drivers. And oddly my windows experience index went up as well. :D

Hybrid drivers? The OP was talking about discrete-only mode on the m11xr1 (a BIOS setting)...

nautis (laptopvideo2go forums) might have more on it in his forum category (they gave him an entire category... with his name on it )
