Nvidia 266.44 Modded Drivers for R2 (Possible PunkBuster Fix)?

Happy New Year and a belated Merry Christmas!!!

It's me Kopicha... long time no see. Have been really busy with work and was very sick lately as well. Haven't got time to come up here much. Knowing that Nautis did a mod to 265.90 some time back to fix the PB issue that plague a lot of owners. And responds are really great. Which seems like modded drivers still serve some interest to everyone here.

Since Nvidia is delaying time and time again with a new driver release. Today I would like to give you guys a New Year Present. A new modded set for R2 version 266.44 dated 12/27/2010. This set is said to fix the FSAA bug with NFS-Hot Pursuit. Also seems to have some performance increase in certain area especially on the GPU utilization on quite a number of games compared to 265.xx releases. This is a leaked desktop driver which I have modded with optimus module from 265.89 to work on M11xR2. I hope you guys enjoy this release and hope it work great for you guys.

A side note, during the installation it will show as 265.89 but not to worry after installation it's actually 266.44. There is some reason behind that this is only way to let the installation work (took me quite some time to figure it and make it work). You can take a look at the screenshot of what you will get after installation.

Just extract the files and run setup.exe. Both express and custom installation should work without issue as far as I have tested.

For those who play Global Agenda, the previous mod 265.90 will crash on launch. But this release also fix that.

Downloaded and installed. Thanks for the install. Was hoping that these would work better then 265.90 for FFXIV but not so much. I blame SE for this. 260.99 works pretty good for FFXIV but not FFXI. 265.90+ work great for FFXI but they are horrible for FFXIV. Maybe the official WHQL will work... One can hope

 

were they so bad in ffxiv? I did a quick short test run inside ffxiv before posted the drivers and I felt they are identical to 260.99 in the overall performance...

 

I get the "Unable to Detect DirectX Device" error. I wasnt getting this with the 260.99 driver. I reverted back just to make sure and it is following the driver. Unless you are doing something different than I am

Just use the Clean Install option during the installer and you will be fine.

 

Thanks kopicha, these drivers are working great. I haven't been able to download Bad Company 2 to see if it has fixed punkbuster but I have been playing Doom 3; and it is running like a dream.

These drivers definitely seem to be working much better for me than the 265s. Thanks again

thats entirely up to you. in the custom installation there is a fresh install as well. so u can use either option you prefer

 

that was an infamous issue with the game. i used to get that a lot in the past as well. but i remember that was suppose to be the client issue. i havent run into this error with this driver so far. maybe i havent run it long enuf? i dont know. need more test...

 

sorry to hear that... dont have gta4 so i dont know. but it work fine on many others that i tested. including bfbc2, cod:bo, ffxiv, global agenda, just cause 2, f1 2010, wow, and a couple more...

 

PB should be fix. i played more than an hour online last night with it no kicks or what so ever error. performance seems decent in the game too

I was playing SC2 and notice the temperature has gone really high compared to the 265.60 driver is this driver clock speed set to OC on default?

 

Yeah, I got the same thing, about one hour in my GPU got so hot it throttled.

 

Same, I'm using a cooling pad now because the higher temps are noticeable. I also turned off all AlienFX lights to be safe.

the clock is at default unless you OC yourself. The GPU utilization should be pretty high thats why its giving your GPU some workout which is something that should improve the overall performance. This has been one complain in the recent drivers from ppl who notice that a lot of games are not utilizing the GPU high enough which this driver seems to got this optimized in a way. A couple of games I notice GPU utilization goes up as high as 80-99% as compared to in the past 40-60%

 

Hi Kopicha I have not OC the CPU or the GPU, I guess this is where the performance increase was coming from and explains the higher temperature due to more ultilisation. I would have to say for games it runs very smooth for the first 30min but without cooling the computer become extremely hot as the onboard cooling is not sufficient.

While using firefox + watching movie the temperature also goes up dramatically because flash 10x is using the Nvidia chipset, I have tried to whitelist this and make it run on the intel card but it was not successful.

I can not see any bugs in either SC2 or black ops.

 

I'm coming from the 189.79 drivers (Also by kopicha lol), and here's what I'm observing:

SC2 is running great, maybe better than ever. With Black Ops, I'm going along at 35 fps WITHOUT the stuttering anymore. Problem is that when there's a massive explosion, the GPU hitches to about 13 fps for about 10 seconds then goes back to normal.

BC2 is working great, PB doesn't have a problem with me. The stuttering I used to have when playing Mirror's Edge is gone now.

I personally think you need not worry about the heat. if i am not wrong the temp should be sitting around 60-70 degree if i am not wrong which is suppose to still be within the safe range. I did not really try SC2 but Black Ops does perform much better than previous drivers.

I personally dont let Nvidia take control of flash video. I dont see benefit of it since the on board Intel HD is more than capable to handle even at HD level. And its more power efficient as well. I use firefox as well I have no issue disabling the Nvidia acceleration. You may want to check if you whitelist the right thing for your firefox. It is suppose to be plugin-container.exe that can be found in your program files(x86)\Mozilla. Then set it to use Integrated Graphics and its good to go.

On a side note, I dont have anything OC at the moment. I am running this driver atm personally and with the ultimate tool from unclewebb ThrottleStop and I dont feel that there is heat issue. I felt that its within tolerance level and most of my games are performing either great or better than ever. thats why take. You have your choice mate. Cheers...

 

I had been playing sc2 with these graphic drivers. Namely star battle custom made. Works great. No temperature change.

 

hows the performance compared to previous releases? is it the same? slightly better? or worst?

 

Ahhh... I love star battle. Every once in a while, I get a really good lobby of people for one game

 

It's about the same. Although slight increases in performance playing 4v4 and having 800 units on the field. Now I suspect the main problem with the slow down is cpu granted. Oh and I also through in fallout 3 which I am trying to get perfect. Right now high settings 8xaa and shadows off. That is a lot better then the 260.99 drivers. Never tested fallout 3 on the 265.xx drivers from nautis.

 

Yeah.... I pushed my CPU with TS, and it's still too slow in some custom games, and extremely late 3v3 games. Luckily, I have few 4v4 games, since it would tank this laptop

 

Yeah you have to go in as a premade or get really lucky.

 

good to hear there is some improvements at least to say. looking forward to the next official release from Nvidia. Hope things turn out better than this

Thanks for the response kopicha everything working like a charm I have followed your instructions and the Integrated Graphic is now used to run the online streams. Keep up the good work because without you and Nautis we will still be plagued with the dreaded PB kicking + waiting for an official fix from Nvidia is like another story altogether.

 

I installed the driver and so far so good BattleField FINALLY works online which was the only reason i bought it off steam.

But I've noticed that in my "hidden icons" there used to be something for the Nvidia controls but its not there anymore (not the biggest issue at all) and if i have to whitelist something its more convienent anyone no how to fix this?

 

So BF2 can be played without the pb direct3d overlay problem?

 

I didn't play It too long but i was able to play a whole round with out getting booted. Before I couldnt play longer then 2 minutes. So yes it does fix it

 

Hmm now pb is picking up a "Unknown Windows Api Error [131133]"

 

If your using Steam, make sure you disable the "steam community in game" option in Steam>Stettings>In game tab. The overlay was getting me kicked, guess PB doesn't like the steam community, with its chat features, etc..

 

there is no more nvidia control panel icon ever since 258.xx series drivers for optimus laptops. they are being replaced with another icon that monitor applications that trigger the gpu in optimus mode. u can enable that icon in your nvidia control panel (which is disable by default on a fresh installation)

My graphic configuration in GTA went so LOW and gave a warning, is there a way to let it detect other than choosing the .exe from the control panel?...

kopicha, I previously had 260.99 since my laptop is like a week old. I encountered the punkbuster thing for bfbc2 so I tried out your driver mod. It's working online now, but when I installed it I just used express install. I didn't know we had to do something cause I didnt fully read the thread. Now im seeing you guys are talking about this thing called driver sweeper? and you mentioned something about a clean install.

So I checked my control panel for the uninstall programs list and I see nvidia 260.99 3d vision driver along with the nvidia graphics driver 265.89 and nvidia physx system software 9.10.0514. Did I do anything wrong?? and if I did, how can I fix it. thanks!

 

nope you did not do anything wrong. to be honest there is no need to install the nvidia 3d vision driver. This is why I have strip it out of this mod thus you still see the previous version cuz you had it installed previously during the 260.99 installation. as for the driver I already mentioned in the first post, in your uninstall programs it will be shown as 265.89 and that is perfectly normal. go to your Nvidia control panel and relook again it's actually 266.44. Basically there is something in 266.44 that is incompatible with the installation package. That I had to replace it with something from 265.89 which is why in your uninstall programs still showning 265.89 but the matter of fact you are running a full set of 266.44 minus the Optimus module. Hope this clear your questions. I also suggest you to uninstall the 3Dvision drivers

I will also be releasing another update shortly to address the wrong version shown in the uninstall program section. should be up within an hour from this post

 

unfortunately this is a driver bug and its not cause by the mod. it seems like 266.xx release bring back the GTA bug. Will have to wait for Nvidia to fix this one thou.
