    Hey guys,

I just bought an m11x and it got here today. I've updated the gpu drivers and also the synaptics pointing drivers. I can't seem to get them to deactivate when i have a usb mouse plugged in.

Also is there a way to get the fan from spinning at weird intervals. I mean it goes off when I am just browsing the net then shuts off after about 5 minutes. I understand it when it does this in a game but not when I am doing hardly anything cpu intensive.

    Any help would be great!

For the SU7300, the fan isn't supposed to do that, unless if you have it overclocked. My R1 unit ran the fan once about... every 30min for a few sec before shutting the fan down again (admittedly, I normally didn't overclock it, due to a wierd speedstep issue with the R1).

The option should be in the synaptics drivers you download from Synaptics.com. The Dell drivers gimped almost every worthwhile feature out of the Synaptics touchpads.

    fyi -

The Alienware forum is divided into a main Alienware discussion area and model specific subforums.

When creating a new thread, if it is model specific, please post to the model subforum. Only general Alienware discussion items should be posted to the main forum.

    Thanks,

Really the fan comes on when it needs to. You are running an overclocked tiny notebook, so yes, the fan is going to go on and off at weird time.

One of the advantages of the M11x over other notebooks is that it is a powerhouse with great battery life. It's just my personal opinion, but why overclock the machine and take away that battery life advantage. As you're seeing, you're going to consume more power because the fan is going to kick in, and from what I've heard so far the fans are a little over cautious given that this is such a small notebook.

Turn the overclock off, and save it for your desktop, or just learn to live with the fan.

On the mouse thing, I feel your pain. I've never had much success in getting Synaptic drivers to disable when an external mouse is connected. Hopefully someone else can offer some guidance for that one.

Here is my fix for your issue with the touchpad.

touchfreeze - Project Hosting on Google Code

Smart program that uses no resources, knows when your typing as to not accidentally use the touchpad and cause a problem. In a way better than having the touchpad totally disabled since you can still use it when needed.

Maybe I am mistaken, but isn't the fan frequency of coming on adjusted with the A05 BIOS? My R1 was doing the same thing, then after I flashed to A05 it stopped, I bet you're seeing the same thing.
