if its still in warranty, call the tech support and get it replace.
that is not normal, look like the heat sink is bent / damage. it might cause system to heat up.

Mine came like that out of the box.

Word of advice, if you're even slightly technically competent, get Dell to ship you the part and install it yourself. A**h**es which came to fix mine (2 separate occasions) managed to spoil something else in the process.

    Good luck.

return it to best buy. Dont use the warranty...just tell them. Then buy a new one. If you dont do this warranty will either open your comp and fix it or give you a refurb.

Just bring it back into Best Buy.

The unit obviously has a defect on it. You paid money to buy a new unit from Best Buy. You have every reason to expect that you get a functioning unit without defect, and without having to deal with technical support or waiting for a repair man, etc.

If they still give you crap, return the unit. If they charge you a restocking fee, tell them you are going to contest that with your credit card company. If they say they don't care, then smile nicely, say OK, go home, and then contest the restocking fee.

Then get a Fast TRack system from Dell.

Looks like the fin on the heatsink are bent. You could technically fix it yourself if you don't want to wait.

Get the heatsink out and use something pry the fins back into their normal position. Looks like the way it was inserted caused the edges to collapse.

Then again if you have the warranty, just get the tech to replace it with a new one.

Best buy all the way.. Return it right away .. the Geek squad Tech department.. walk up.. show em.. tell em you want a new unit that it obv. looks like a issue on the system build.. The employee that installs the heat sync obv. did it incorrectly.. I bet in that day.. they sent it to some place where temp employees were hired to assemply the units.. and that part there probably was 300 of them in that one day from that one installer that are all the same as yours.. It clearly looks like that heat sync was droped before putting it into the system because more then one fin is bent over it's the section.

~OR~ it looks like the system had a Best Buy optimization service on it.. where they removed the 'bloatware and speed things up' Not that it is needed in this system.. But if they did, they may have tried to plug the power supply in the corner.. But it is evenly bent over which leads me to believe it's installer related.

It isn't a cone or circle shape mark on it as if you jabed a pen in it. It's flat like the heat sync was droped on the corner before installation.

Don't do anything with dell.. just simply take it to the Geek Squad Desk in Best Buy and tell em you want a full replacement.. ( refund.. repurchace..) so there is no question on your account that you ever had any issues as far as any warranty work

    Refund

    Repurchase... 100% no questions asked.

One thing about Best Buy.. use a warranty, you may have to rebuy it..so Refund, then re-think what you want to do.

    My opinion.

Better Business Bureu is a nice threat.

I couldn't really tell if more than one of you have this problem and if you are not within reach of a service call, but that definitely isn't as designed. It looks like someone shoved something through the opening and bent the fins. I'd guess that it probably will run fine that way for the time being given that it is only a small subsection of them. If you want, you could shut the unit off (remove battery and AC) and try to straighten them out with some tweezers or a fine point. When you can, have the thermal assembly replaced or exchange the unit at Best Buy.
