Got my new M11x yesterday. It has two flaws....

The keyboard isn't perfectly flat across the board. The WASD area is raised a bit and flexes a teeny tiny bit. The wife can't even notice it and I played WOW for hours last night with no problems.

The screen is another flaw which I just notice. There's a thin gap between the fake glass and the plastic lip. This has me worried way more than the keyboard. Looks like a great place for dust to get in.

Right now I'm thinking I'll live with it only because I see the replacement horror stories in the other threads. It works perfectly otherwise and I do have a year to complain I guess. Am I crazy? This isn't my main rig (it's three on the list) so I could just keep asking for replacements if I wanted to. But I hate hassles....

The keyboard thing is perfectly normal on these. Mine dips a little on the F-G keys. It does have a flex feeling. Unless it's sticking WAY up, no worries.

With the screen are you talking about right above the webcam? If so, also normal with these.

I just received my 'new' m11x. I can see the same 'lip' between the bezel and the screen. The metal strip that encomposses the power button and contains the little icons is also very scratched up.

Is there any way I can verify that the laptop is new?

The strip most likely has a plastic covering on it. You could pull it off and it won't look scratched.

Ah, you were right. Thanks infoghost! The visual texture made it seem aluminum like, and it was against my nature to try and scratch it up more by attempting to 'peel' it.

    Thanks!

There has been a problem reported of a large gap between the gloss screen cover and the top panel. It should have a tiny evenly spaced gap of <1/2 mm all the way across the top. If you have an uneven gap or obviously large uneven gap this would be a manufacturing defect which can allow ingress of dust and dirt. Call Dell to replace it!

Maybe you could take a picture of it so we can see if it's abnormal...

That's it exactly. So no worries about dust then?

If your display has a gap then of course dust may become an issue. This is a defect in your unit and not all m11x's have this issue. Dell will replace your screen if you request a service. However, you may wish to hold off making the call until they release the newly designed hinge.

Might as well kill two birds with one stone.
