    Hey guys

Along with a new motherboard to repair my USB. I'm getting a new LCD to hopefully repair my "Alienware" Logo LED light would it be possible that the new monitor comes with the new hinge or any hinge?

When they replace the LCD , they will put in the updated hinges as well. Thats my guess though and it would seem logical.

Whoa! Make sure they are bringing the right part numbers. Parts stock may or may not be the newer one.

Sorry to say this is false but on the up side when they replace the screen it already has the new hinges on them. Dell doesnt source just the hindges they are forced to replace the whole screen and everything. Had it dont on my wifes R1.

I'm sorry Kurt, I have no idea what you just said.
I know that when they put in the new LCD they have to replace the whole screen, mic, webcam, bluetooth, and whatever else. I'm not new.

When they replace the LCD assembly then all of that gets replaced. The LCD itself could be replace on its own.

Yes this is confirmed. Had no doubt. What I am curious about is the hinges whether they will use their old supply if they still have it or ship it with the new models...

There is a screen (LCD) and a front/rear panel making up the assembly. They replace whole assemblies not individual parts. IOW to fix any single component, including the hinge, the whole thing gets swapped.

What is NOT confirmed is if the assembly will be inclusive of new "hinge fix". You need to be sure of what part numbers to expect and perhaps even request for them.

I do not see anything official from DELL in form of policy or promise that says you will get updated hinge arrangement. Forget any generic promises from support chat.

What I AM sure if is they will continue, as they have been, to use up old stock for repairs unless chasing a hinge failure fix. From posts in forum you can see it is best to confirm these numbers all the way up until delivery.

Yes, now to find out what numbers I need to have and which ones are the old hinges. Time to do a little research.

before I made an account on this site, there was a thread showing the exact model numbers of the new thread and that before you called in dell to send the technician, you had to make sure to tell them get them the exact model part for the new hinges ( by telling them the number )

Well hes coming today so won't matter much. I still have 7 months on my warranty I'll have time to replace them should they get loose.

I have had the screen replaced on my M17x R2 once. I guess the screenbundle is the same on the m11x, only much smaller.

They replaced the whole screen bundle (E2E glass + hindges). The hindges are not detachable from the screenbundle, so it is 100% you will get new hindges.

I just called the tech support line about a heat problem I'm having with my R2. When I was done explaining my situation, he inquired about my hinges. I told him they haven't failed yet but the hinges are starting to become unaligned (left hinge is closer to chassis and the right one is pulling away). He said they would send me new ones ALONG WITH A NEW LCD. I was asking if he was referring to the actual LCD or just the housing and he said the LCD w/ housing. Apparently, the hinge problem also might have an affect on the LCD which might also explain why I have a white spot on my LCD.

Either way, I guess this might confirm the OP's question.

Actually "no". While true the hinges are never replaced separately, you still might get the old assembly.

Note: there us not any actual problem with the hinge but rather the mounting points on the rear bezel. The new mounting method to bezel requires new rear panel plus hinge. It is impractical to have just those replaced and less liability to just do repairs with a whole assembly
