Not sure when this happened, but at some point the metal nameplate on my M11x actually warped and partially melted. Wow.

Holy crap  Are you sure the nameplate didn't warp from something else? I would have expected the CPU/GPU to fry long before temps reached that level.

Am i missing something? All i see is the flash reflection and the shape of the alien head that's part of the engraving.

Don't see anything either... perhaps you can post clearer picture or explain to us where the warped sections are?

Ever been slipped into a bag or backpack while it was still running? I've done that 2 or 3 times with my R2 and that's the only way I could see it getting that hot.

EDIT: That's about where the memory modules are IIRC.

Right at the beginning of his name on the tag you can see the metal is discolored from heat.

Looking at one of my extra name tags it should not be like that.

Remove the tag and take a look under it, or remove the bottom plate and see whats causing that much heat.

I'm trying as hard as I can to distinguish any warping or discoloration.

All I see is the Alienware logo (the black curvy lines) though..it's an alien eye/head.

Hm, maybe it just bumped into something and got scratched/dented/dinged? Or maybe you accidentally left your m11x on the stove? :D

It sure looks like a melting mark, but like someone said, the laptop would have melted before tha metal plate

Here's another picture. The metal tag has a long discoloration in the lower left corner, curving through the tag. The tag itself does not appear to have changed shaped or anything, but there's been some sort of temperature reaction that has occurred (I assume)

Just curious if anyone else has had this happen. I don't overclock often, and never though heat was an issue with my laptop... I guess I was wrong.

I just called Dell about mine because the temps were just ridiculous:

    CPU Max: 110 C
    GPU Max: 103 C

They're sending me new heat sink and other crap but my name plate hasn't been affected by it even though it's painful to the touch when the R2 gets that hot.

Let's just say that I didn't buy a gaming laptop to play games for an hour before the laptop automatically shuts off due to heat. I now get random artifact lines whenever my screen is turned on every now and then so I'm starting to believe my GPU was permanently damaged from the heat :( Don't want to get a second mobo switched out.
