Sigh,
I'm a heavy smoker, as such so is my M11x (R2). There is a noticeable build up of dust, and or tar, on the fan. This is causing it overheat whilst gaming and shut down. Super frustrating. Yes, I've OC'd to 166 and I'm running ThrottleStop, however it has never sporadically shut down like this before in the few months I've owned it.
Any ideas? I'm considering cleaning the fan, but if I understand this means removing the keyboard, disconnecting the monitor and finally removing the motherboard totally from it's housing, just to clean off some dust?!!?
Not really prepared to tear apart my 1000 pound laptop thus voiding the warranty just to clean it.
Any ideas? What would be the outcome of calling Alienware support? At best a refurb? A tech comes round and cleans the fan for me?
Thanks for your time,
BitByteBit.

Can of air, although it would alot better if you removed the keyboard and palm rest. you dont have to take the screen off to get access to the fan.

Have you tried stop smoking? It can fry alot more than electronics...

Anyone ever try this stuff?
Cyber Clean Putty
ThinkGeek :: Cyber Clean Electronics Cleaning Putty
I bought a container at a Radio Shack, but apparently I got a bad one as half of it had been exposed to air and had the consistency of hard rubber. The good side felt like that old Nickelodeon green slime I used to have as a kid, "Gak" or something it was called.
My M11x - cleaning it questions?
