I've had my mx11R2 for ~2 weeks. I've noticed that the screen is pretty dim.

I tried to take a picture of it at the min and max brightness settings, but you can't tell with the camera from my phone.

The eyes of the alien on the back, at max brightness, are kind of a grayish tone.

Is this the normal brightness or is it supposed to be more vivid?

Need good photos to tell really and unless the room is very brightly lit (with no direct lighting on the screen) your phone likely isn't going to cut it.

Any chance you have a Best Buy or Microcenter in town that carries them in-store? If so, swing by and check those out for comparison.

Not sure, but I'm heading out to help the parents buy a TV tomorrow and I think we're shopping around so I'll keep an eye out.

    Thanks for the tip :D

Well, after looking at an identical floor model, I can definitely say that my unit's screen brightness is off, by a considerable amount.

I'll call Alienware and see what the best course of action is.

Edit: Just to give an idea,

On max hardware screen brightness (through fn+f4), I have to see the intel gfx color settings to this:

    Brightness: 51
Contrast: 40 (the whole way down)
    Gamma: 0.5
    Saturation: 21

For it to get colors and brightness even CLOSE to correct and even then the screen is really dim and colors are still grey/washed out.

My screen is also pretty washed out, it displays blue pretty nicely, but everthing else looks pretty waded out compared to my LCD monitor. I checked the display stngs n it was auo make, anyone else have a similar problem or is this just the way it is?

The AUO has a very heavy blue cast to it. You might try my ICC profile. Link in my sig.

I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to add that my screen (AUO) on my original M11x was really dim as well. I had the screen replaced a few times, all of which were Samsung screens, and I noticed a substantial increase in brightness. I had further problems with my machine and received a replacement which has the AUO screen, however it is much brighter than my original screen. I compared it to the replaced Samsung screen and it is just as bright, which leads me to believe that there are some defective, overly dim screens out there.

    • Start
    • type "device" and click on Device Manager
    • expand Monitors
    • right-click on PnP Monitor and choose Properties
    • Details tab
    • Choose Hardware Ids from the drop down list

It'll be an AUO, SEC (Samsung) or LG.

Is there anyway to dim the screen more than the minimum brightness level? When in dark rooms, it would be nice to dim the screen a bit further or just have more levels of dimness or brightness.

    Thanks!

They all say generic pnp monitor... you have to right click that, properties, details, property -> hardware IDs. Mine says MONITOR\SEC5441.
