    I'm the proud owner of a M11x R2. i7 8gigs of RAM.

I'm having problems overclocking this guy. I've searched and searched and read all the guides.

I can get my fsb to 162 in the bios. Speedstep is disabled because for some reason my R2 won't boot up with it enabled at that fsb. My laptop stays plugged in all the time anyways. Turboboost is enabled.

I have throttlestop 5.0 installed and running. I followed the guide, but I'm having trouble with the multiplier part. it's at 9 and when I check the box and change the value up once it goes to "turbo" then my R2 crashes and reboots. I'm running CPU-Z and use wprime and the multiplier never changes. My core speed stays around 1460 MHz.

During my searches I've seen other guys with the same R2 as I that have their multipliers at 14 and 17. I don't understand how they are doing this. I don't see anything in the bios that allows you to change the multiplier.

My bios is version A04 (pretty sure anyways)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to have speedstep enabled for the multiplier to increase. The fsb you can reach without crashing is different for each processor. Yours cannot handle 162 so you need to lower it to a more stable overclock.

This is the thread for you.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m11x/524257-how-supercharge-m11x-core-i5-i7-um-cpus.html

Those were good times back when the M11x-R2 was released. It continues to be one of ThrottleStop's brightest moments. Turn off CPU-Z and keep a close eye on the multiplier reported by ThrottleStop while testing with wPrime. CPU-Z is a MHz validation tool and isn't detailed enough to see exactly what your CPU is doing.

Adjust the TDP / TDC and the Force TDP / TDC value in the Options window and you should be able to get your CPU running much better. The SuperCharge thread tells it all. You need to have EIST - SpeedStep enabled for ThrottleStop to work correctly. You may have to reduce your BCLK MHz or invest in some better memory. It's usually the memory that will hold you back when overclocking the BCLK on these things. Some users have pushed their R2 up over 180 MHz.
