    Hello guys,

My Alienware M11X is just over 2 months old and it seems to be falling apart.

I had the screen replaced just last week for the hinge issue however there are still gaps on the screen (is this just poor build quality?)

Now the speaker has gone and is making distorted noises and cutting off. I also noticed when I was going to take the bottom panel off that a screw was missing. This must have been the engineers work as this is the first time I have ever taken the panel off.

Just a few days ago I had found a screw but I thought nothing of it until just now. The found screw is the exact same as the others but when I go to tighten it the screw doesn't grip at all and falls back out.

Dell now want to replace the speaker which is fine but I am not happy having the whole magnesium chassis replaced.

Right now I feel like throwing the system back at them, it cost me a lot of money and months of saving up to get it and I feel like it's falling apart.

How many people have had their system replaced due to issues? I don't think it's fair that 2 major components need to be replaced in such a short time.

Well, sometimes luck just isn't on our side...

Ask them for full replacement, or even for r2.

    This is unfortunate. :(

The build quality on mine is great- No issues whatsoever. As vorob states, I'd ask for a replacement unit.

The build quality was superb until the engineer came out to replace the screen.

I was leaning towards asking for a replacement system as well. Just need to go and fight with them now.

I have uploaded some pictures of the gap at the hinge.

Just off the phone with a manager from Alienware Technical support. He wasn't budging about a replacement we went back and forth for 35 minutes until I just gave up and asked for an engineer, he did promise if anything else went wrong he would arrange for a replacement.

I just want a working laptop but it seems like shoddy build quality everywhere.

I'm not sure what those photos are supposed to be illustrating. My new R2 has gaps just like those.

Well I don't like the idea of being able to see the LCD cable or the wireless atenna. They illustrate poor build quality.

Good Lord..... Really? If those gaps are really an issue for you, I'm sensing a severe case of OCD... :)

I had to shine a flashlight on the right gap to see any cables. I certainly can't see them in a room with bright lighting and I wouldn't classify their being "visible" as poor build quality.

As for the speaker and stripped screw hole on the chassis, I'd definitely keep pressuring for a replacement.

    Good luck!

Very good chance the replacement wont be a R2 btw. It's not like R1's have phased out already.

The gaps didn't bother me for a while but then I paid a lot of money for this laptop, why shouldn't I get one that is perfect?

To honest I am not looking for a R2, that never crossed my mind. I just don't want an engineer tearing the system apart again.

Yeah, OP has OCD. All M11x laptops have two "gaps" at the hinge, otherwise, when you opened and closed the laptop it would make noise from the sections of hinge grinding against each other!

Those gaps are absolutely within spec and should be considered normal by all means.

I think it speaks to Alienware to have a rep here responding to posts. I've seen this on Newegg but not on a forum. Appreciate it.
