    As per the topic -

Bought Metro 2033 a few days ago during one of steam's offers and I cannot get the game to work at all. CTD several seconds into the startup logo.

Many forums suggest it's due to a certain version of Physx yet with the community 265.90r2 (and r1) drivers there is no option to remove just the Physx component and install the version that comes with the game.

    Has anyone had any joy?

    Cheers, Paul.

Try using the certified 260.99 drivers. I have absolutely no problems running Metro 2033 using those drivers.

The problem with using beta and release-candidate drivers is that nobody can give you support except nVidia. And nVidia won't give you support, because you are using beta drivers.

It is absolutely not worth upgrading drivers if it introduces instability or other problems. Just because the version number is bigger, doesn't mean that it is better.

OK, you've both confirmed what I had suspected. shame. I've waited so long for the PB friendly drivers in order to play BC2 (among others) hence the 265.90 set.

Now it's time for metro 2033 to wait till an official set get released.

    Cheers, Paul.

Rumor has it that early next week nvidia will drop new drivers that fix the PB issue.

Running the 258.86 drivers here on my R1. Metro 2033 *ran* without a problem.

It is massively GPU limited though, bringing even my desktop to its knees.

To give you an idea my desktop running a resolution of 1680x1050, 4xAA, 16xAF and Very High Settings saw frame rates drop into the high 20's at times. This is on a pair of GTX460's overclocked by 26% (or around 20% faster than a stock GTX580).... I would need at least 2 GTX580's overclocked to maintain even 50fps in this game at 1680x1050.... I hate to think what Surround would require.

Even clocking my 335m to 585/1404/1800 I was running between 20 and 50 fps in the opening sections of the game so prepare for some dips into the teens when in firefights.

Unfortunately Metro seems to have an engine that *feels* like it is running alot slower than it actually is (so 30fps feels like 20), somewhat annoying when you are already running a relatively low framerate. Ah well still good fun though.
