Mafia 2

Anyone having a problem with mafia 2 starting in windowed mode? I tried changing the shortcut run to maximized but that didnt help. anyone no what to do?

 

I can't get this game demo to load at all, on any driver set.

Super disappointing.

LOL ya im pretty sure thats the thread i started about the demo, this is the full game im playing now the game loads no problem now but its just not in full screen, its pretty annoying

 

Downloaded Demo.. Ran benchmark about 20 times to see what is best.. still tinkering.. 30fps avg on medium settings... Later.. StevenX

I can't find this this 'jirka' file anywhere Help!

 

I was hoping the full version would have fixed this. Its very odd behavior. :\

 

Just go into your C drive and paste that line in the address bar, first change "jirka" to w/e your user name is....this is what I did.

 

Can any of you guys post your benchmark scores please?

Guys i installed the full ver of this game, and yet i cant get it to work at all .. it starts then it goes back to desktop , i do have the latest nvidia driver.

am running M11X R2 ... any ideas anyone ?

 

Dude ur lucky enough to get it to work .. am using the same system as u r (m11x r2) and i couldnt get this game to lunch.. 1st after lunching the game it goes back to desktop and the screen is all RED ( had to reset the resolution to fix it) and then after i tried the change 1's to 0's as posted in this thread. it also goes back to the desktop but this time it doesn't change the colors.

so could u at least let us know how u got it to to work ? to be honest am running a pirated version..

 

I just hope the full version I bought off Steam works when my machine arrives.

I'm getting 34FPS on average after 10 runs with default Medium settings. My system settings are in my sig. I'm using 258.96 drivers (was using 259.22 before and was getting slightly better results if Mafia 2 is the only game you care about, though 258.96 has been better for all my other games)

 

I tried the demo on my R1, also ran benchmark a lot. I could never get it over 30fps. I just ended up getting the PS3 version off Amazon.

Odd though! I can get a darn good framerate in Red Faction Guerrilla on my laptop. You'd think with all the physics intensive buildings falling, explosions, etc. going on in that particular game, it would lag badly. (Then again RF3 uses the Havok engine and not NVidia Physx, so I dunno...) I wonder.

 

How is it possible that your benchmark got more fraps than mine?
My notebook achieves 15,4fps instead of 30,8fps with an i5 520M and a GeForce GT 335M. I chosen medium settings without physx.

 

For some reason I can't get Mafia II to launch on my R2. I've switched all the ones to zeros as suggested previously but when I try to play the game it opens a small black window then closes.

 

Waiting for an update on this. I have been struggling to get it running good too.

The FPS is horrible no matter what you do because the game runs windowed instead of Full Screen.

Has anyone figured out how to get it on full screen?

 

What's your frame rate?

Thats seems to be a insolvable problem =( I play it in windowed mode too.
Is windowed the reason for low fps? Is the performance better in case of fullscreen?

 

Performance will ALWAYS be better in full screen if we could run this full screen we would probably see a increase of 10-20 fps.

 

I got an average of 27,4fps with all on low and physX OFF. Still thinks the game looks great..

With physX on medium.. I think the average war about 12 - 13 fps!!

R1 with SU7300 and 4gb of mem.

 

That makes me angry ... we payed lots of money for this game and the developers leave us out in the rain =(
Who is responsible for this bug? The 2K team or the nvidia team?
That's the first game I played with such a problem. Are there any other games containing this bug?

 

maybe we should get together and email/call the right people... it looks like all M11X owners are having this issue.

 

No not only M11x owners ... I have an Asus notebook with a Geforce GT 335M. So I think the bug due to the nvidia Optimus technology or it's a problem of Mafia2.

i am using m11xr1 and i can get 24 fps on benchmark..mine is demo copy download from STEAM ..no error and can run in full screen mode...later i will play on my ps3 to see if there is real big difference in graphic or not..

I have always wanted an Alienware and maybe, one day, I will get one that has hardware in it that can run new games.

 

I definitely get much better graphics quality on my M11xR2 than my PS3.

 

apples and oranges.. the whole point of the m11x is that it is a small laptop that is portable and powerful... you cant compare a 11" with a 15.4"

 

ok, it means it is a problem with the optimus drivers then.. not surprised

 

But if you can get a 15.4" that can blow the 11.6" out of the water and for the same price--then it is worth bringing up.

 

Yeah but that 15.4" isn't as portable as the M11x. The point of an M11x is that it's a VERY portable machine that is also fairly good at gaming.

So you have an GeForce GT 335M too? What's your driver version? 258.96 (8.17.12.58.96)?

To see the difference between PS3, XBox and PC see this video. On PC the textures are more detailed than on PS3 and XBox360

 

I hear you but I dont think the price is what makes people choose the m11x. for me, I have spent a lot in the m11x (ssd for example) and I could have purchased the m15x or a 15" asus.. but the thing is that I need a portable notebook.. I need something that I can take out of my briefcase, game for 3 hrs and move on and then play for another 1 on the plane. Or if I am home I can just pick it up, play on the couch or on the counter and not have to worry about battery life.

I used to have a lenovo y550p (15.6) and it was heavy and waaay too big.

yes my alienware m11x come with gt 335m . my driver version is 258.96

 

Not convince on the low benchmark results i try something more crazy..i turn on the physx and bump the geometric detail to medium, set ambient occlusion to on and i manage to get 26fps !!! if i lower the resolution to 1280 x 720 i manage to squeeze 1 more fps to 27fps.. during the benchmark i could see most of the time can run at 30fps and only on some intense scene it drop to 26fps

There is a post on 2kgames forum about other users with Optimus having the same issue. I would sugest others post there as well, might get more attention from the developer.

Ya I updated to that driver and now Mafia wont even start, The mafia 2 picture appears and then it just says mafia 2 application has stopped working. Any idea what is going on?

Try turning off ambient occulsion in game. When I had this turned on, the same thing happened to me.

With it off, the game runs full screen

 

it seems tat all issue is mostly with m11x r2...glad i din't sell my r1 and get r2

 

Before reading this thread at all I updated my drivers to kopicha's driver, then installed Mafia II... and it just works. Just ran the benchmark and I got 34.6 fps average. This is on an i7 R2 w/ 4GB of RAM and 64-bit Windows Ultimate.

 

Same thing happened to me after updating the drivers.. I went into Control Panel-> Add/Remove programs and right clicked on Nvidia Physx and hit repair..This fixed the issue for me

 

Ya I tried to repair but it still didnt change anything Mafia 2 doesn't start.

 

do you get the little rectangular box on the screen and then it closes? or it doesnt start at all?

 

The little Mafia 2 picture shows up in the center of the screen then it stops working
