I just got my alienware and saw that my hard drive just have 283GB of total size.

I guess something is missing , does alienware create another partition on it to storage their programs?

    THank you for help.

    yep
plus you miss that drive manufacturers and dell think that 1000 Mb are 1 Gb
when in reality 1024 Mb are 1 Gb which adds up to the discrepancy

what fuzzyhead said, and yes, there is a 15gb partition with windows + programs stored for if you need to restore the computer--putting the total up to 298gb

All Dell Laptops have a hidden partition with which you can restore the system to what it was when you bought it.

I have been known to just make an image of my entire hard drive upon reception of the laptop, and with that image backup stored away, I just wipe that hidden partition out and recover the free space.

I have also been known to eat fries with mustard so take everything I say with a grain of salt. ;)

    cheers!
